I know traffic cameras exist and are common, but can authorities give you a ticket if your vehicle is seen somewhere and seen again at another point but you arrived at the 2nd point faster than the speed limit allows?

Probably could, but I don't think they are set up to be taking pictures and comparing them unless you ran both lights or something. More than likely the most you'd end up with is two separate tickets for either speeding or running a light depending on what they are set up for. I've never head of them being set up to put two and two together as a timing system.

Speed cameras: For when it's too expensive to pay a cop to hide behind a bush...:D

I've read of tickets being issued on freeways which use entry-exit time-stamped tickets like the NY State Thruway (well, it did last time I was on it), or the roads that use the E-Z-Pass, if your enter/exit times show excess speed.

F'rinstance, if you exit 20 miles from your entry point 12 minutes later, you might expect a discussion with lore enforcement.

Have a nice day! :)

I guess then you'd have to be going fast enough to blur your plate's image

Or you can put a plastic shield over your license plate. I firmly believe that these cameras are unconstitutional because you have a the right to face your accuser in court. A camera can't take a seat at the witness stand.

It depends on what your local laws allow, in CA "automated" speeding tickets are illegal but they do have cameras that send your info to a police officer waiting a block away so he can "verify" your speed as you pass him. Also if you are going double the posted limit some redlight cameras will send you a warning in the mail but that's all it is it isn't a ticket.

An important thing to remember is that they have to have a picture of your face, or at least be able to positively identify you as the driver for the ticket to hold up in court. In the case of redlight cams they will send a ticket to the registered owner of the car. If you shield your face or a visor, etc. blocks your face and you claim you let others drive your car and forgot who it was at the time they will generally toss out the ticket (tho one guy still got the ticket after wearing the exact same clothes to court as he had on in the red light photo).

Your car ran the red light, and as the registered owner, you are responsible for whoever you let drive your car.

Courts ignore the fact that you have the right to face your accuser in court for red light camera cases. If you make that case in court the judge will basically say "so what" and tell you to pay the ticket. It's kind of the same thing as DUI check points which in many areas are actually illegal but no court or judge cares.

Not necessarily. Often these cameras will start flashing anything that is in the intersection when the camera has turned "red"

But immediately when the light cycle is "red" the red lamp is not yet illuminated and the yellow lamp is still quite bright. We are talking a few/hundred milliseconds...

Also often unscrupulous municipalities have set the yellows on a stretch of road to a normal level, say 3 seconds, then the one with the camera, 1 second... this has been well documented

Traffic tickets have everything to do with lining city pockets and the state.
In my city, they even pay cops a bonus for writting tickets. As you , you brought us soo much revenue, you are a good sales man, here is some bonus for ya.

Not in MI. There is to much legal crap, it won't happen for 20+ years.....
IIRC in MI the boating laws are like that, if your boat is involved in a accident the owner is responsible if no driver is found.

Sad too say but red light cameras are almost nec in NE Ohio. Never seen so many blatant violators in all my years and I've lived in 4 different states so far.

thats why i wont get ez pass. too easy to document my average speed going from toll booth to toll booth. the cameras themselves at the booths dont save anything to memory, and if they do its not a large amount, maybe one day's worth, but ez pass uses credit card info to track you.

if you mean traffic cameras high above the road, no. they are usually run by a state's DOT and the police do not have access to those cameras. they are also usually not of high enough quality to zoom in that close and read a plate- they are for traffic flow and incidence monitoring purposes only.

no. thats like saying i loaned my friend my baseball bat for his game that day, only to find he killed someone with it. now its my fault? someone else committed the crime, i am not responsible or an accomplice in the matter.

The ticket goes to Enterprise. Then Enterprise bills you for it. Just like you would probably do if you lent your car to a friend and he ran a red light while driving it.
the difference there is you sign a contract that says you will be the sole driver of the vehicle. if you are not, then you are in breach of contract and there are other issues to deal with. there isnt a contract that says the owner will be the sole operator of my vehicle.

there are reasons why none of the red light camera issued tickets are moving violations and are only enforced like parking tickets even though if a police served you the same ticket it would be a moving violation.
