Toyota Siennas Recalled to Fix Power Liftgate
June 17, 2008
Toyota is recalling 196,222 Sienna vans from the 2004 through 2006 model years to repair the struts which hold up the power-assisted liftgate. Those struts can fail, causing the gate to power its way shut, injuring anyone hit by the closing door.

Image conscious Toyota, with the approval of the National highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), is describing the recall as a "Safety Improvement Campaign" in a public relations effort by the Japanese automaker not to further sully a deteriorating reputation for quality control.

So why is this not a recall?

I fail to comprehend why the NHTSA wouldn't demand that Toyota call it what it is.

Bull.
How much did they pay the NHTSA to let them not call it a recall?

So any future issues with GM, Ford or Chrysler products will get this new title then right? I love how Toyota didn't have to beat around the bush with this, they just came out and said it was for PR purposes. This would be all over the news if it was the Tahoes lift gate with a "Safety Improvement Campaign", only they would be saying how GM was trying to cover up the fact that it is indeed a recall.

They are kick ass at PR, can't blame them for that. Wish GM was tho.

And this is why the media needs to kick their ass. They abuse the media, and the media just bends over for more. Pathetic.

It's a recall. Call it that. Sheesh.
