Toyota's U.S. sales chief said today that he's confident the U.S. pickup truck market will rebound and continue to make up a large part of total sales.

Pickups have been the #1 seller long before driving a truck was "cool". So having said that, it makes sense that pickup truck sales WILL rebound.

However the days of the average Joe buying a truck who has no need for a truck are probably all but over with, and having said that, I feel the truck sales will never see the peak from a few years ago.

Rebounding from a huge slump is easy IMHO.

People will go back to trucks- as long as they can get them for cheap!

Are you underestimating the famous short American attention span? Unless of course it involves a mistake by the domestic auto-industry, then it is burned into the DNA sequence of all offspring for a thousand generations.

It will recover some, I think, but not much. Anything remotely close to 2004 levels is a pipe dream, however.
