Have a friend that recently purchased a new 4Runner and is experiencing a delay for the tranny to engage in drive. Its only happend a few times throughout his 3500 miles but I dont think that normal. Its always happend on an inline but if you try to duplicate on the same incline a second time it won't do it. what happens is that he places the gear on D and accelerates and in return only gets an engine rev then a few seconds later it will have a little hit when it finally engages. very wierd

My truck does that sometimes, but it's only if I hit the gas right after shifting. I would suspect it's just a simple adjustment that needs to be taken in for. I bet it could really do some damage to the tranny if left unattended.
