Re: Top Gear Australia Episode 4 - HSV W427 Test !

The Stig really chucked it around. The most fun lap so far, for me anyway. I have to say, the W427 in red, looked pretty hot on the move.:dro:

Actually, I just watched the tube of it again. He ****in gave it to it!

that was great, although the antenna situation was a bad design element. The Astra lawn bowling was pretty funny

The review was good, the best so far, and the best run around the track as well. The anntenna thing, i read somewhere that it was designed to tap the window like that at exactly 250km/h. Im sure its been mentioned on this forum before but not exactly sure when. Its unfortunately electronically limited to 250km/h :( and if it was left to its own devices (un limited) I wouldn't be surprised to see it nudge the 300km/h mark considering a Z-Series Maloo Ute stock standard hit a max speed of 275km/h in the outback. Surely this thing with 500hp (375kW) could top that.

lol, your a persistent bugger aren't you NZ.:) It must be that kiwi blood :D

Nothing on the Torana sorry mate, the LS9, haha good luck, expect to see that in a couple years time after the W427 has run its stock. I actually don't think we'll see the LS9 over here in Australia. I think the 6.2L LS3 will be continually upgraded and modified for a couple more years then HSV's first engine upgrade will be to the Gen V engines with direct injection, possibly 3 valves per cylinder etc.
Holden will stay with the 6.0 probably to keep any fuel guzzler remarks under control and probably just continue with that, however, it makes me wonder how many LS2 derived L98's are left....considering the LS2 went out of production a couple of months ago. Possible LS3 derived variant on the cards for Holden?

Holden confirmed it had LS7, LS9, LSA versions of the HSV around and the LS7 was the most developed so it came out first. The LS9 is unlikely to surface - too dear and too much power with attendant problems. Far more likely we'll get the LSA in a future GTS, which is what is in the CTS-V. 550hp should be enough to see off 'ze Chermans'.

As for Torana? Who knows - 2011, 2012? If Holden is even around by then. If Holden knows, they aren't saying anything.

2011-2012?? Too little too late by then, they should have had the [email protected] to build the Torana after they first unveiled it, all those years ago......

Now that is true Top Gear! Blatant disregard for manufacturer's demonstrators. Brilliant! For me, that Astra Bowling is only a smidgen below what I expect from TGUK due to lower production value and Charlie Cox.

Can you please try to use punctuation and paragraphs. Thank you.

Why would Nissan give GM its GTR engine, that's ridiculous. Making a Inline 4 turbo putting out 230kw is hard. It costs money, money GM doesn't have. A twin turbo V6 is possible, but again, it costs money. Holden are trying to reduce fuel consumption.

The Torana will also cost a lot of money to make. It could be a great move but it's really a matter of cost for development and really it has to be a success. It'd be a gamble to revive it, especially under a rear wheel drive platform.
