As the old adage goes, speed costs money and your velocity is directly proportional to the size of your bank account. Going fast usually ain’t cheap.

But fret not if you’ve got a thing for speed and are of modest means. Automakers are providing more fleet yet affordable vehicles than ever before. And these modern performance machines are hardly one-trick ponies; many of them handle and look every bit as good as they accelerate.

You don’t have to bury yourself chin-deep in debt just to enjoy some brisk acceleration. Here are 10 speedy cars that can be had for less than 30 grand.

Except it just recently got a big reduction in price. And it still drives very well. Far better than any of the V6 Pony cars.

Nissan USA's shuffling of option packages results in a particularly appealing configuration for MY2015: 370Z Sport 6MT. It includes limited slip differential, sport brakes (4-piston fixed calipers front, 2-piston rear), rev matching for the MT, 19" forged RAYS wheels, and Bridgestone RE050 max performance summer tires. It's a bargain at under $35k MSRP.

Nissan has been asleep at the wheel while the Mustang and Camaro have undergone major modernizations. All the price cuts in the world won't move stale bread.

It's time to phase out this version of the Z.
