Ouuu, look, a brand new race-ready sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro--meet the Camaro GT4.R.
Built off Camaro ZL1's ridiculously good road going platform--with the help of Pratt & Miller Engineering-- it will sing a well known small-block song, with Chevrolet Racing dropping in a race-prepped, dry-sump, 6.2-liter LT1 V8. Power will hit the pavement through a six-speed Xtrac sequential transmission with pneumatic actuated paddle shifters and tunable traction control.
Other goodies include two-way adjustable Ohlins coil-over dampers, six-piston aluminum monobloc Brembo calipers with adjustable ABS, new aero work including a pedestal rear win, new splitter and diveplanes, and lastly an Xtrac limited-slip diff for racing applications. Compliant with global SRO GT4 regulations look for it in both IMSA's Continental Sports Car Challenge and the GTS class in Pirelli World Challenge.
GM's first ever GT4-spec cover broke cover last night at Roebling Road Raceway down in Georgia.
We knew the GT4.R was coming after the loose lipped Rolex 24 announcers tipped us off, but it was thought the car wouldn't show until closer to the 12 Hours of Sebring in mid-March. It's believed Blackdog Racing will take the GT4.R's virginity during the PWC season-opener in St. Petersburg before Stevenson Motorsports debuts the car during the CTSCC race at Sebring a week later.
Driver announcements are forthcoming, but expect to see two-time champion "Awesome" Lawson Aschenbach back behind the wheel of the Blackdog Camaro.
