What an engineering feat it must have been to build such a unique looking car. I'll bet many hours were spent on that design. :flush:

I'll be rushing right out to buy one garownteed.

:pain:
I wonder if anyone will did a burnout as they drove a GTO off the boat? The temptation would be great.
The GTO styling is fine, espcially considering how fast the Monaro was transformed into a GTO. In other words quit whinning, besides it is much better looking than the awful 99 GTO concept.
If you want a GTO with hood scoops and more aggressive looks send it to an aftermarket company and you will have what you are looking for.
If you want functionless hood scoops and other festoonery, the Grand Am SC/T is for you:

That's a big boat
Having looked at a bunch of Monaros in Australia, and having seen the GTO on display at the SF Auto Show, I think I've figured out the fundamental problem.

The 'prototypical' GTO color is red.

But the Monaro looks lousy in red.

Blue, yellow, even silver, it's gorgeous. But in red, it just looks fat and undistinguished.

Didn't help, either, that the one on display in SF had a fairly boring monochromatic interior. Holden does wonderful contrasty seat and dash inserts, they look great, but this car didn't have them.

As for the rest of Pontiac's line, the antique Grand Am, the warped new Grand Prix and all the rest: bulldoze the lot of 'em into a dumpster and sell some Commodore sedans.

Yeah.. coming from an australian. I wished they'd bulldoze all the 04 GTO's and build a real car.

I can wait another year or two for a good GTO... in fact I am.
Any idea who that is standing in front of all those GTO's? Australia or CA?

Those are Monaros, I guess
That picture is a couple weeks old I think. Those are GTO's he's in front of. I think that was before they were to be put onto the ship in Australia.
He is the Managing Director of Holden, "farewelling" the first shipment of GTOs to the US.

He retires in December, returns to his home country and will be presented with a LHD Monaro for his personal use.

Mike
Color is not the issue. The GTO looks great, if you want a aero kit and other go fast extras go ahead. Yes I would prefer larger rear wheels on the GTO but it looks are fine.
Pontiac has stated they are in transition and if the GTO is an indication of the direction Pontiac is headed in I can hardly wait to see what is coming.

Are those covers on the brakes too?
Not sure... but when I used to assemble the export Olds Alero they had special brake rotors with a coating on them so they did'nt rust too bad on the boat, which eventually wore after being driven.
It looks like the most popular colors are black, red, and yellow. I'd definately go for a blue one.
