Can't believe we're sneaking up on another season. I was in an unnamed shop today. Chassis's for the Daytona cars are done and bodies are hung and assembly will start on Monday. After about 6 weeks away it was nice to see the mills/presses/brakes waiting to go and racks of parts awaiting a new season!

IN FIRST!

Figures that when my guy Harvick left Childress ( and wasn't my guy any more) that he'd...you know.

Anybody but Johnson! 2015 woo!
Its only 48 days until the Daytona 500!

Seven more weeks, fellas! Six, if you count the Shootout/Unlimited.
If only the TV broadcasts weren't such commercial fests that occasionally showed racing.

I'll post this in here since my thread was a victim of another "rollback".

"Jeff Gordon to cease full-time driving after 2015 Sprint Cup season"

I became a NASCAR fan in the mid 90's, with the exception of clips of some of the old races, I've never watched a live NASCAR race that Jeff wasn't a participant in.

Holy smokes time goes fast! Seems like his rookie season was just a few years ago.
I think we all saw this coming.

Chase Elliot will take over the #24 Chevrolet SS for Hendrick Motorsports in 2016.

"Chase Elliott, who became the youngest national series champion in NASCAR history last season, will join Hendrick Motorsports as a full-time Sprint Cup driver beginning in 2016. Elliott’s No. 24 Chevrolet SS team will be led by crew chief Alan Gustafson, who has earned 19 wins, 18 pole positions, 98 top-five finishes and 165 top-10s at the elite Cup level."

So are they going to run direct injection without those plates anytime soon? How about a Car based Chassis? Like Force Toyota to use their stupid Camry.

What? And have GM use the SS and Ford use the Fusion? Something tells me it won't hold up hitting the wall at 190mph.

The correct driver won it last year. Hopefully, that happens again, no matter who it may be. Larson was really strong at the end of the year. Anybody but JJ!
I've been a Larson convert since his nasty wreck at Daytona in the Nationwide series in an unsponsored car. He WILL win a race and make the chase this year!!

That car was sponsored by Clorox. :D

My bad, I believe it was unsponsored for much of the season?

The car was sponsored for most of the 2013 season (if not the entire season). He was already a development driver for Ganassi and ran with several of JPM and Jamie Mac's sponsors from Cup in addition to Turner-Scott's usual sponsors.

Interesting remarks by Richard Petty regarding the number 9 for Chase Elliott. Now, they question is, does HMS go forward with plans for the NAPA 24 car, or strike a deal and get the 9 for Chase Elliott to use in 2016?

It comes down to the sponsor. If they've already got a bunch of branding and advertising for one car# they may not allow a number change unless HMS is willing to pony up the funds to completely reprint everything. I know another driver that went through this. Wanted a number change for personal reasons and ultimately the sponsor said no. Said they signed up for a multi-year deal with a specific number and they already had x amount of money poured into advertising for 3 years worth of promotions and they weren't changing.

Do you work in the industry? Or just friends with some of the drivers?
Well, that is true, but I don't think there's any NAPA 24 stuff anywhere yet. Maybe late summer or fall we may see what it'll be, though. I like the thought of him keeping Papa Joe's 25.
I like the 2015 scheme. Hopefully he'll keep it when he goes full-time.
