A bittersweet goodbye to the locally built VF Commodore.

With Holden's Australian production coming to a halt in less than a year, Holden Special Vehicles took the opportunity to assemble the ultimate expression of Australian high-performance, the GTSR W1. HSV managed to secure themselves the last known allotment of GM's 6.2-liter LS9 V8, formerly of Corvette ZR1 fame; giving the W1 a fantastic 635 hp at 6,500 RPM and 601 lb-ft of torque at 3,900 RPM.


Race car means race car, and HSV will only offer the W1 with a Tremec-TR6060 close-ratio manual transmission. It's hooked up to a twin-plate clutch, a solid flywheel and gets a W1 specific input shaft. The package should be good for a 0-62 mph romp in about 4.2 seconds.

The special Aussie affair foregoes GM's fancy MagneRide dampening system for something a bit more local. Australian-based SupaShock provide a lower and stiffer suspension which is said to mimic what the firm provides to Walkinshaw Racing's V8 Supercars for competition use. Wrapping the forged alloy wheels--which look lifted from the Camaro Z/28--are super sticky Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R rubbers, 265/35 front, 295/30 in the back.

Carbon-fiber fender vents, a CF spoiler and distinct finishes visually set the limited-run of 300 W1s apart from HSV's standard GTSR.


If you wanted one, the GTSR W1 would have set you back $128,750 USD, but you can't have one. Over 800 people tried to get their hands on one, but HSV said all of them had been spoken for before the project was even publicly announced.
