I actually think this is a good thing. That we have no universal family car anymore shows just what innovation has done for us. We can no longer make one car, spread it across 3 or more platforms and get away with it. We have to make cars that look good, ride and handle good, and actually have the amenities you want. SUVs have taken over of course, but I can't wait to see what the next big thing is...seems like we went from coupes, to sedans, to wagons, (to hatchbacks  ) to SUVs, and I am wondering what is next. And you can bet it has to be good.
My only problem is that the best-selling cars (Camry followed by Accord if I'm not mistaken) are extremely bland! The Camry is just about the most boring car I've ever set eyes on. The new Accord has more innovative styling, yes, but now they're taking a sales hit on them. Does this mean that the average consumer just wants a boring car that will blend in and won't fall appart on them on the way home? How sad :(
