Its a bad idea to have a "Best American Cars" list, no matter who wins. Why?

1. Because the Big 3 continue to drop market share to Japan; and

2. None of the products are truly American anyway. They are assembled in Canada, Mexico etc and/or with parts from God knows where.

This is like a "Best of the Worst" list. Other than the F-150 none of these "winners" can stand in the ring with the rest of the market.

These people are pretty dense.

I like the 300 a lot, but it is not luxury. The C version comes close, but it's still not a luxury car until they put better materials into it. Any Cadillac or the Zephyr should take this one home.

The Malibu? Madness! Maybe the G6 or Aura, but I have to reluctantly give this to the Fusion/Milan.

What they meant by American is the company. GM, Ford, and Chrysler( somewhat now since they are owned by DCX) are American companies. Now according to your definition of American, Toyota, Honda, and Nissan are American because they build some of their vehicles in the U.S? HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA. They will always be Japanese no matter where they build there cars.

You know GM still has more American plants then Toyota does even after they close the plants that they plan to close. IMHO, I don't mind supporting Canadians and Mexicans. Why? Because they're human beings too! They need to make a living. As long as the vehicle is reliable I don't mind where it is built. If it is built in the U.S, that is a big plus for me knowing that I am supporting our American worker. But, I will still buy a vehicle from Canada and Mexico as long as it is put together well and is reliable.

Is the S7 really considered from detroit? Why not the Ford GT? Obviously the Z06 should beat the Viper unless they have some data requirement that didn't make it eligible yet. The Jeep Comander is the most ridiculus statement in there. Can you even call it luxury?

IMHO the Ford Focus doesnt deserve best small car over the Chevy Cobalt, Ive driven both and its not close. The focus was great when it first came out but two months ago Ford sold 20,000 of them at a 4,000 to 5,000 loss per unit.

The Focus is the better car, every comparo where they have been together the Focus has been found the better car. The Focus was the best small in America when it came out first, now is middle of the pack. The Cobalt was a so-so car from day one and is aging faster tha a dog.

Did anyone notice that they spelled 'hybrid' wrong on the list? They spelled it 'hyrbid.' :)

DETROIT'S AUTO ALL-STARS• Small Car – Ford Focus
• Sedan – Chevrolet Malibu
• Wagon – Ford Focus Wagon
• Minivan – Dodge Caravan
• Small Truck – Dodge Dakota
• Large Truck – Ford F-150
• Luxury Sedan - Chrysler 300
• Mid-Sized SUV - Jeep Grand Cherokee
• Luxury SUV - Jeep Commander
• Supercar/Exotic - Saleen S7
• Hyrbid - Ford Escape Hybrid
• Coupe - Dodge Viper SRT10

As far as the contents of the list itself, I agree with:

Dodge Caravan (better than a CSV or Freestar)
Dakota (better than a Ranger or Canyon/Colorado)
Saleen S7 (as much as I love the Z06, the Saleen is faster and more exotic)
Ford Escape (there weren't really any American hybrids (or hyrbids :) until the Vue Green Line, which is just starting to roll out)

As much as I think the Focus has lost its competitiveness, the only other wagon alternative that I can think of would be the Dodge Magnum. There's no Saturn wagons anymore. I think the Fusion is probably a better car than the Malibu, but I'll take the win. :) Escalade, Yukon Denali, or SRX should be the luxury SUV, not the ugly, undesirable Commander. I'm on the fence about the Chrysler 300...on one hand, it's a good seller and looks good, especially in SRT-8 trim. On the other hand, I like the STS and CTS-v a lot, too. Maybe we should compromise and name the LaCross the best luxury sedan. :)
