In many ways, we’re living in an automotive golden age. New cars have never been safer, more fuel efficient or more technologically advanced than they are now, and attractive design has also become so widespread that even those buying the humblest of compacts need not settle for snooze-worthy styling.

That’s not to say that everything is perfect, of course – as ever, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and some automakers occasionally have decidedly unusual ideas about what constitutes tasteful sheetmetal. Take, for example, the ten models that follow, which we think constitute the most aesthetically challenged new vehicles on the market – while undoubtedly created with the best of intentions, they simply don’t represent their respective brands at their best.

Are there any other eyesores that you think deserve a spot on the list? Do you disagree with any of our selections? Let us know in the comments below.

I like all of those except the MINI coupe, MIEV, and Cube.

SL is ugly.
Cube is ugly.
Crosscab is ugly.
Crosstour is ugly.
Mazda5 just sucks.
i-MiEV needs to be burned alive with its lead designer inside.
5GT is bad.

ProMaster doesn't belong on the list, it's a utility vehicle.
I like the Mini Roadster, not so much the coupe... but it's kind of ugly.
MKT isn't terrible, but it needs work.

Oh yeah, and it is a target rich environment over there.

A real list would be at least half Toyota product -

LLN is like so many others, always willing to carry water for Toyota :yup:

Juke is actually trying to be repellant looking. I just heard the Cherokee is riding a wave of popularity. I think the secret to its success is that people walk into the Jeep showroom and see it's got almost the same name and that looks a lot like the Grand Cherokee. People see it's cheaper but similar looking (from the back especially) it just makes sense to go for the cheaper Cherokee that's not so 'Grand.'

I would put the BMW X6 in the list. It looks like its been kicked up the bum! I think I if it I were to leave the SL on the list then I would put the Dodge Avenger in it too. Both seem close to being good but are let down in places.

Lincoln MKT the car that front end & grille is hideous makes me cringe instantly every time l see one.

Lincoln the brand that front end & grille is hideous makes me cringe instantly every time l see one.

One of my favourite brands is Lincoln, that l want to see survive do well not die like a lot of others have in the last decade. That MKT front end looks like it has got here comes the Lincoln coffin written all over it.

Ford Fusion Aston Martin front end is draw dropping, looks a million dollars.

Whats Going On Ford?

I disagree wholeheartedly. They might not be snooze worthy, but most new cars are ugly as sin.

Nat Shirley demonstrates in this report why sometimes the concern for public safety trumps the First Amendment guarantee of free press. Simply having a stick up your rear is not sufficient reason to declare any of the vehicles on his list as ugly. He appears to just have a thing against 4-door fast backs. Thus, he includes the Honda Crosstour and BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo. Ugly is all over; it is not just from one angle. The Lincoln MKT is not the prettiest puppy in the dog show, but neither is it the ugliest. It is not even the ugliest Lincoln--not even close. Has he ever even seen the Lincoln Navigator?

Then when I read Shirley's reasons for including the MB SL-Class on his list, it is clear that he does not understand the term ugly the same way that most other people do. To him, the roadster is a "stylistic letdown," which he equates with "ugly."

(Sigh)

A lot of people must like the Cherokee. I'm one of them. They selling something like 15,000 a month now. Great vehicle. Super interior.

The SL? Seriously? Beautiful car.

I really don't find the Crosstour unattractive.

The Cube has got to be at or near the top of the all-time ugliest list. This makes an Aztek look elegant in comparison.

I dunno man. Three doors is already walking out on a limb. I think I choose to ignore the Veloster's ugly mug because I like the idea of it.

Instances of the Jeep Cherokee 'pushing' people's boundaries reminds me of the famous Ray Lowey "MAYA" formulation...

Acceptable.

Chrysler airflow, NOT maya. Poncho Aztec, not maya. New Jeep Cherokee 'squinty eyed' face..apparently is maya since it's selling.

But even with the Aztec, there was a Buick version with nearly identical proportions but 'Buickish' styling - it sold strongly enough and morphed into the $ making Enclave.

What's wrong with the Doblo / Promaster City? I think it's an eye-catching little van. Same with the Juke. I think it's bold and aggressive and oozing with character.

Worthy of mention are vehicles with innocuous body styling, but hideous faces. Ford E series vans are straight out of a scifi flick and GM's vans manage to kick bland up a notch to outright ugly. The aforementioned Navigator has a face not even a mother could love, and the already questionable MKT was actually made worse with the latest facelift. And while we're on the FoMoCo lot...sweet angel of death, PLEASE put the Ford Taurus out of its misery.
