At first glance, the ION is roomier and more substantial in nearly every way than the SL it replaces,
personally, the interior ergonomics of the ION's backseat took a step back compared to the first gen S-Series. i spent a good 5 years mulling around in the back of my dad's SL1 before i was old enough to get my licence, and hopping in the backseat of the ION sedan made me feel claustrophobic. just my two cents
