Those numbers with a 3.7 and a turbo are not hard to believe at all. The only thing hard to believe is if they will actually put it in a car. Lets hope for a lighter lower prices GT-R killer.
A subaru at that, that is hilarious. If I wanted 450 horse power, I'd go for a Porche or Viper class car, not a subaru. Do they think it will sale?

If it's priced right why wouldn't it sell. Sure if it's Viper/Porsche money the buyers will be very limited but a lighter weight, AWD, cheaper GT-R sounds great to me. I'm quite sure some of their rally cars have that kind of hp. The Subaru STI puts out somewhere around 300hp with 2.5 liters so it's not much of a stretch.

Sorry for my taking of this lightly, but my parents used to have a subaru when I was really young and I can remember piling into it to go to the beach. It was cheap and slow like a little import trinket car, so I can just see that car with 450 horses and thats what makes it so funny.

BTW, 450 to 300 is a little bit of a stretch in terms of hp:yup:

"Subaru Legacy STI rumored to have 450 hp"

"AE also mentions [some magazine] that a Legacy STI is on the way with a turbo'd 3.7-liter producing close to 450 hp."

"Whether or not such a beast will actually come about is open to debate"
Yawn. Call me when it gets here.

Besides, the current STI starts at $36,000 with 300hp - how much would a ~450hp STI cost...$45k?

Your parents Subaru was a loooong time ago. Pretty sure you wouldn't want any GM economy cars compared to a performance car of this era. 300hp to 450 is not much of a stretch when the engine goes from a 2.5 4 cylinder turbo to a 3.7 6 cylinder turbo. E. Haskell does bring up a great point about price though. I think that is what will probably stop this car. Then again there are lot's of performance fans to the north who want a performance car and only want one car so they don't feel comfortable buying a base Vette. For the same price they can have a daily driver that has similiar performance, can haul friends and family, and can be driven all year without any white knuckle experiences (as far as snow goes).

on a seperate thread in nasioc, there was news about the Legacy S concept shown in display at the fuji 500. I believe this one just has n/a engine (don't remember the hp figures) with tuned by sti exterior, interior and mechanical bolt-ons. the same one was shown at the Tokyo auto salon. and I'd love to see a legacy sti come here but if it comes at the price of a corvette, then sadly I'd pass; then again, subaru never really beings its high-end stuff stateside so its 50/50.:(

amazing! This car could be a G8 slayer (GXP version too)...it'll be funny to see a Camaro 2010 Z28 get pwned by something like this...

Very impressive, but by the way...SAAB WANTS THIS FRONT CLIP BACK THE SAABARU HAS RETURNED IN BOTH COMPANIES! Riced out swedish-ness, LMAO!

Subaru wants to rival pontiac?...It just keeps getting better, Lmao!
That was just my opinion.....god knows that would be one of the stranger rivalries of recent times. The Legacy and G8 do target somewhat similar segments though.....and with the G8 GXP rumored to have a power output and price tag in the same neighborhood as the Subie.....one need only let his imagination run free ;)

Actually that Legacy has the turbo 4 rated at ~280hp.

Here's a list of some of what's on the car:
* Exclusive 2.5L DOHC
* Exclusive twin-scroll turbo
* STI air element
* Exclusive engine cover (with S402 ornament)
* Serial plate
* Exclusive tuned ECU
* Exclusive 6MT
* 281 hp / 289 lb-ft

* STI tuned Bilstein dampers
* STI springs
* STI pillow ball bushings rear suspension links (F/R lateral link)
* Exclusive 13:1 steering gearbox
* STI flexible tower bar
* STI flexible lower arm bar
* STI flexible floor bar
* Brembo monoblock 6-pot front (silver, STI logo)
* Brembo 2-pot rear
* STI brake hose
* Brembo 18" 2-piece front rotors
* Brembo 17" rear rotors
* Exclusive BBS forged 18x8.0J aluminum
* Exclusive 235/40-18 Potenza RE050
* Exclusive sports muffler (65φ dual with S402 logo)

Plus I don't know why anyone one would laugh at this. While we here in the US might never see it, they still might make something like it for the Japanese market.

And I'm laughing that people are laughing about performance Subaru. Go to the UK and see what people say about Subarus. The "Outback" image is really only seen here.

Here's an example of a 400hp+ Subaru WRX STi from the famous Litchfield ltd (not Subaru):

And video:

That is an example of what can be done with that engine etc...

What really annoys me is that Subaru is starting to just take off.... AFTER GM divested itself of it.

It's as if GM had no idea what to do with Subaru.... (No surprise there...)

And now rumors are Toyota will get a new car based on Subaru powertrains?
The reason why GM couldn't do this is....???

UGH.
