How much power do American 2.0's make now?
The 2.5-litre is base unit in all N/A Scoobies. It puts out 170 horsepower. A normally-aspirated 2-litre engine would need direct injection to attain 200hp. Also JIS figures are a tad bit higher than SAE or DIN.

Guess who's waiting for this to come out before he buys a new car?

Believe me, 200 isn't enough for Subarus. All Subarus are heavy and have power killing AWD. They are a great drive, don't get me wrong, but they need more power than just 200. Also, I hope they scrap the current base 4cyl throttle mapping. Its incredibly annoying to be half way into the throttle before there is any measurable acceleration.

they also need to scrap that dated 4speed auto in lieu for a 5. they need a new engine even though they made a boxerdiesel.

Oh yes, all Subaru needs after turning the Impreza into a Daewoo Lanos lookalike is a people mover - didn't we all want a Subaru minivan all along? Three cheers for the former sports car maker!
Aren't they going to balance that out with the Legacy STI (see other thread) ??

no it doesnt.
Of course its likely easier to attain that rating with DI.

The S2000's powerplant makes more than 200hp with 2.0L (and 2.2L)
Honda's K20 2.0L makes 3shy of 200hp.

Honda has a 4 cylinder with 200 hp and it doesn't have direct injection.

Honestly you don't need a massive amount of power to move a car, and besides, that's the nature of 4 cylinder engines. Don't like it? Don't get a 4 banger.

The USDM model uses a 170 HP 2.5 liter engine.
The JDM Impreza 2.0 (SOHC) makes 138 HP
The export market Impreza 2.0 (DOHC) makes 148 HP

The JDM Subaru Legacy 2.0R spec.B is powered by a DOHC 2.0 liter Naturally Aspirated engine, it produces 190PS (187 HP) @ 7100 rpm.

Subaru also recently came out with a 2.0 liter Naturally Aspirated Impreza Concept tuned by STI, it produces 200 PS (197 HP) and 196 Nm (145 lb-ft) of torque.

What the... so GM should stop making sport cars and Corvettes because they make people movers and trucks? Where the hell do you people come up with this stuff...
GM - not, Pontiac people movers and trucks - certainly. Chevrolet is not all about sports/performance cars, the Vettes (and now Camaros) are just nice halo cars. For Subaru, the Impreza was marque-defining. With a slew of models like the Exiga, they will become just another Japanese automaker.

And, unlike the article says, they are not a "giant". They are a midget. What's the point of being a boxer-powered Toyota?

What are you talking about Pontiac is suppose to be 'excitement' brand, yet they have an SUV, or I just didn't read what you read right. No, the Forester is what defined Subaru and is it's bread and butter. The Impreza itself is as well, only the STI is performace orientated, the WRX is ok but really not a sports car. The only thing Subaru has ever been about, and only in the US, is AWD.
