Just wondering if there has been any official word or rumor by Cadillac, Lutz, or whoever about the engine for the STS-V... Last December this forum seemed to agree on a forced air (turbo or super charger) strapped to a 5.0 liter V8... with BMW set to deliver the M5 with a V-10 next year, I was hoping for some response from GM.... any word?

 Waaaaaiiiit... a Northstar-V8-Twin Turbo???? Is it me or did that come out of left field?
Doesn't GM already have a supercharged Northstar V8 rated at 450+HP??

I wouldn't mind either, so long as it had 450+ HP to keep up with the E60 AMG and RS6!!

they already have a supercharged northstar? Where?
twin turbo is hard to package, chances are its a blower pushing upper 400's.
E60? You mean E55?

The Supercharged Northstars appeared on the Evoq and Imaj concept cars. I think the Imaj's engine was more powerful than the Evoq's.
There's also the Northstar XV-12 that appeared on the Cien, which presumably will appear on Escalade-V and XLR-V.

You're right.. E55. For some reason, I thought it had a 6.0 V8 in there. Hmmm... In either case.. it's 469HP. And the RS 6 is at 450HP with a BiTurbo. And M5 should be at 500HP.

STS-V need at least 450HP, pure and simple.

I think what we will end up seeing is that the STS will get the LS7 with 500hp, the CTS might get a LS2. Something about having a the pushrod motor in the car is odd, but I guess whatever gets the job done. No one pitched a fit when they made a V16 ohv motor.

Perhaps they could do a 5.6L Northstar with 400+HP and then a 6.6L N/s V10 with 475+HP for the CTS V and STS V respectively. There was talk of a V10 in there plans but to save cost I think the OHV Vette units would be just fine. <_< :D

OK... the Supercharged Northstar in the Evoq had 405HP. ANd the SC Northstar in the Imaj had 425. The Cien XV12 Northstar had 750 HP. And the Sixteen of course had 1,000 HP.

So, GM's got supercharged northstars in the 400+ HP zone (not 450+ like i thought... but close).
Evoq and Imaj were 4.2L and the Cien was 7.5L.

In either case.... 450HP should be the minimum rating for the STS-V.
Makes one wonder though. AMG uses one engine for the entire lineup (except the C). I hope Cadillac doesn't use the CTS-V engine across the board. I would hope for a "high tech," "high output" V8/10/12/16.

I heard they'll be using the same LS2 in the future CTS and STS V's that is going to be used in the C6 ZO6. The engine would put out over 500 HP, but I don't see any car getting it untill one year after the Vette.

Only thing I can think of is that whatever will go into these cars will be made at the new engine plant, or at least STS and up. There is a good chance the CTS-V will get the LS2 as they share the same power raiting. The STS-V will probably get a "490hp" LS7 from the Z06. Motors made at the could be teh LS7, The V12, and a twin turbo V12 to put into the 300k Caddy. And probably a supercharged northstar.

 I hope for the supercharged northstar 450hp+....I would think Cadillac would stay with techno engines like the northstar, but with all the rumors I see floating around these message boards, who knows. Don't get me wrong, love OHV engines, just don't think they scream Cadillac engine.

Whatever they do decide to put in, I wouldn't plan on it out powering the corvette of that current year. Don't expect anything over 400 HP untill the Z version of the C6 is out. Thats GM's "policy" however dumbass is seems to be.

I would like nothing better than to see a 550HP XLRV but I'm not holding my breath since it most likely would outpower the Corvette. Remember what happened to the Grand National.

Cadillac can make a more powerful car than the Vette because Cadillacs cost more money. The GN was a problem because it costed less.
Here'e my take on the whole thing...

So long as Cadillac stays with the competition, (M, AMG, R, RS) then I could care less if it outpowers the Corvette or not. But the moment the M's, AMGs, Rs, and RSs start outpowering the Corvette and outperforming it... then I would hope GM creates a Cadillac to compete, whether or not it too outpowers and outperforms the Vette.

Seeing as the competition for STS-V has a *minimum* 450HP, then STS-V *has to have* at least 450. That will most likely outrun the current Vette.

Give the top Vette a 600 HP engine (ie - set the bar high enough) so the Cadillac Vs won't reach it any time soon. So what if the V's outperform the "lower" Vettes, so long as it doesn't top the Z06 (or whatever it will be called). That should appease Chevy and that silly rule GM has.

Cadillac can make a more powerful car than the Corvette not only bacuse they cost more, but because they aren't really in the same class. The only Cadillac model that would possibly steal from Corvette buyers is the XLR. And at that price and that power, I don't see it stealing anybody. And if or when they make a XLR-V, it will cost so much it will be more likely to steal buyers from the $100 grand price class rather than the Vette. As far as the CTS and STS, they can give them as much power as they want because they aren't competing with the Corvette. The thing is, I just don't see any car getting the LS2 untill Corvette has it for 2005. GM would just want to debut the engine in the 'American sports car.' But that's just what I think, three or four models could get the LS2 next year if GM wants to. We'll see...
