Our Future Models Won’t Be Ugly: SsangYong

SsangYong is bullish about its future and says new passenger cars and sexier styling will improve the Korean car maker’s popularity in Australia.

Chairman was first and last SsangYong passenger car to be sold in Australia, but smaller future models are likely to sell in more significant numbers.
SsangYong plans to reverse declining sales in Australia by adding passenger cars to a current range that’s dominated by 4WDs and utes.

The Korean brand last week restructured its local distribution set-up just two months after 2007’s industry sales figures revealed a second consecutive year of falling sales.

The newly formed SsangYong Motor Australia has overhauled the pricing and specification for its entire model range, and has established itself as the first car maker locally to offer diesel-powered vehicles only.

That white car really looks like an old Mercedes E class rip off..

Wishing them well on their future designs.

with some old Q45 mixed in as well. especially in the rear quarter.
That is one classic headline.
No kidding! You hit the nail on the head there!

Honestly, it surprises me that more car companies dont hire outside design firms to do some styling elements? SsangYong has some truly ugly vehicles -- you'd think they would have hired Bertone or ItalDesign or something to help them out!

However, isn't SsangYong owned in part by SAIC? Could it be possible that future growth in markets like Australia will come off the backs of SAIC based vehicles?
I'll believe it when I see it.
Picture #2 looks like an Aztec truck..........
Wow, bad taste isn't in short supply at Ssangyong .... nasty

SsangYong Says Their Future Models Won't Be Ugly ....but it won't be pretty either!
The only Ssangyong models worth looking at are the ones OUTSIDE of the cars.

If those cars pictured are their future cars, they're still ugly.

it actually uses the 1980s e-class platform ...... SsangYong gets a lot of their components from Mercedes Benz ....
They've got a long way to go...funny though when you think about it...when was the last time we heard of a company being so forthcoming about the looks of its cars. Its easy to say it about cars you made 5-10 years ago but to say it about your current crop, that's true blue honesty!
I hope it is true that they have reached the apex of their ugliness.

The agreement with Benz is that there has to be a generation separating M-B from SsangYong technology. In other words if the Benz E class is using the W211 platform, then SsangYong can't use the W210, they have to use the even older W124, which the Chairman is based on. When Benz replace the W211, then the W210 technology could theoretically be available for use by SsangYong. And so on. That is if SsangYong even continue to bother with M-B technology in the future.

They may be strange looking vehicles, but I'd rather see Kyrons and Actyons tooling up and down the freeway than FJ Cruisers, Scion boxes and a host of Detroit's less-appetising offerings...

And the SsangYong Rexton is actually nicely styled (imho) if a bit ordinary. I believe this one was developed when SsangYong fell under Daewoo's aegis.

Again, Rodius aside, none of these vehicle are any uglier than half the stuff sitting in American driveways today.

That's not a bad looking SUV!
Well if they aren't going to make them ugly that rules out cloning anything from toyotanic or honduh and grills from nissen.
I guess this would be their first model that isn't really ugly...

...a little bit of Mercedes here and a little bit of BMW there.

That white car really looks like an old Mercedes E class rip off..
Thats because that white SsanYong Chairman luxury sedan is based on a W124 Mercedes E-class.

I'll take both girls, they can keep the car.
