Rumors of a German (or at least German-branded) pickup truck have been bouncing around longer than a Lamborghini sport-ute or Ferrari sedan, and may seem just as out of place. But the automotive paparazzi have brought the speculation back to the forefront, spying a developmental test mule of what is tipped to be a Volkswagen truck undergoing apparent cold-weather testing.
The vehicle spied appears to be the mid-size quad-cab short-bed pickup rumored to wear the Robust nameplate. A variety of cab and bed configurations are likely to be part of the package when it goes into production in Argentina. An SUV derivative is also anticipated to be part of the package, slotting in the Volkswagen truck line-up between the Tiguan and Touareg in whichever markets VW winds up offering it.

True it's not a great name. But it's no sillier than the hypermasculinized faux-cowboy hokey cliché "old west" names that all American pickups use!

At least ******** won't go around naming their baby sons Robust....
Faux names or a faux truck? Gimme a Silverado.

VW is a joke.

Yeah, stupid Americans. Nissan Frontier & Titan, Honda Ridgeline and Toyota Tocoma & Tundra make sense!

Is it less funny when Korean companies name their SUVs Tucson and Santa Fe? Most names are silly but most of those "old west" names have real legit histories and are real places. A lot of the "old west" is still current west to country. You might not get it if your living near NY, Boston, or LA and on the coasts.

VW seems particularly gifted with stupid truck and SUV names, but what do you expect from a company that use to make the Kubelsitzwagens.

Nissan just called- they want their pickup back.
Exactly my thoughts. ;)

Weren't VW drivers not too long ago saying how elite they were in comparison to all those "hillbilly pickup drivers who ruined the environment..."? Hmmm, I guess if you can't beat them join them. Of course the press is all over GM for building big trucks, but watch them fawn over this...!

So, it's a Titan? Is this how Nissan is going to save the Titan, have VW sell it, too? Or is this on some other platform?

Somehow I can't see VW building a whole truck platform, so who's is it? Dodge? After all, they are using Chrysler's minivan for theirs, right?

Yeah, by the side profile it resembles a Nissan truck, but thats not really a bad thing. And seriously, VW makes some really sweet cars! Especially when compaired to other cars in its segment! Why would this truck be any different? VW dosent half ass things like other companys, I think that this will be a really cool truck.

What's that supposed to mean? I just happen to think Dakota, Cheyenne, and Sierra aren't appropriate names for human beings. And only ******** give their kids stupid names like that.

Now I know all you bumpkins out in Bugtussel Falls don't know much of the world outside of Hazzard County, but in case you're unaware, being Jewish means I'm not exactly embraced by high society. My Country Club application would be put in the same file with Missy Elliott's and Snoop Dogg's.

So I think ******** name their kids stupid stuff. Big deal. So do yuppies. You think I'm not sick of meeting people whose kids are ALL named Alex, Abby, Tanner or Hannah?

So put the "classist" crap aside. And learn to distinguish light teasing from vicious criticism!!!!

Allow me to rephrase. The names themselves aren't stupid. In fact, I think they sound pretty good. I'm waiting for Chevy to revive the "Cheyenne" moniker just cuz I like it.

But the hokey romanticization of this fake cowboy-wannabe image embraced by the emasculated American male, and clearly recognized by Madison Avenue, is what I find stupid.

And make no mistake. I have issue with any group that latches onto some "theme"-based lifestyle because of some image it's supposed to project. Into that category you can lump "Church Ladies", Yuppies, and Gangstas.

Thankfully there are Americans out there who don't partake in this childish behavior. Sadly, there aren't enough of them...
