My friend and I didn't have school today so we figured we'd go check out the used car lots at the Saturn and Chevrolet dealerships and also check out the showrooms and see what the new Astra and Malibu are like.

Well we got to the Saturn dealership and MAN is that nice! They just opened it two or three weeks ago and it's really awesome. I didn't have a nice camera with me so I couldn't take any pictures but to give you an idea it's pretty much the same thing as in the brochures, just add palm trees. Really nice materials and lots of flat-screen TV's and computers gave it a really nice feel.

They had a REALLY great selection of vehicles in the show room, each a good selection to show what that model line has going for it. That SKY RL has a very very comfortable interior, it looked like a really fun car to drive. They had a bright red ASTRA in the showroom and MAN that thing is super nice, I was really surprised by the quality of the interior and the fit and finish of the exterior for the price that you're paying. I think it'll be a really good seller, it's just a shame that its fuel economy ratings aren't better.

Now the Chevrolet dealership... that's a different story. It was horrible. When you drive by the road is lined with Corvettes and Silverados. Wow, great guys. Let's make Chevrolet look like a gas guzzling brand. Perfect.

You look around and there's the good ol' boys working on a Malibu Classic off to the right where everyone can see them. Now, I don't really mind that but I know that the majority of people don't want to see the service center for the used car lot right in the front of the dealership next to a main drag.

It gets worse as you pull in and walk up to the showroom. Just outside there was a tacky '07 Monte Carlo (a car I actually like) with horrible dealer-added rims and it's absolutely filthy. There's an orange Aveo, also filthy. A nice HHR SS, also filthy. There's a Tahoe Hybrid ($54K) off to the left though, which was pretty cool. But when you enter the show room... well let's just say that you would think that it's Roger Dean Corvette of Cape Coral, FL. There was a receptionist's desk, a Z06, about five convertible Vettes and then about five hard tops. The entire show room is filled with CORVETTES.

Cape Coral isn't even NICE and they have the entire show room dedicated to Corvettes! They probably just sit in the show room for six months before they even sell, it's completely outrageous. Why wouldn't they put a Malibu in there? An Impala? An Aveo? A Tahoe or Silverado? Instead of filling their dirty old show room up with Chevrolets that the general public is going to be able to afford, they fill it with ONE model- the expensive halo vehicle at that!

My friend and I look around and just say "screw it, let's just get a Malibu brochure and leave." Oh look, there's the brochure rack! And every single brochure is in backwards! Great, that looks really nice. NOW I know why most people I know won't even consider buying a Chevrolet.

Oh well... at least Saturn of Cape Coral's brand-new show room was awesome!

Doesn't one guy own about 3/4 of the dealerships in Fort Myers?

Chevy dealers are hit or miss.

Where I ordered my Corvette the showroom has an array of cars (and it is always changing). They keep a Malibu and a Cobalt on the outside, always in good condition. The building is a bit older, but always clean and the staff always friendly. The used lot is off to the side, clearly separated by the main driveway into the dealership. It even has it's own showroom.

The other Chevy dealer that is right next to me is the opposite. They have Trucks and Corvettes all out front, on the side (also a main road) they have HHR's and Cobalts. The used lot is non-existent. In the back they have rows of Trucks and Impala's. This dealership is also old, and usually is clean but the staff is very "greasy"

I haven't seen a new design Chevy dealer because all of ours around here are 20 years old looking.

It's funny you didn't criticize the Saturn retailer for the same thing since almost all of them have their service departments right up front with sales. Or do they not do that in the newer buildings?

The whole building is one structure, the service department is off to one side but you can't really see inside.

Yeah but Roger Dean and Saturn of Cape Coral aren't under that franchise.

That is how it is here too.

My Chevy dealer had a array of cars in the showroom and the Malibu was front and center. Smart move.

Ramp Chevrolet near me has two very nice showrooms in two different buildings. One has all of their Malibus, Impalas, Cobalts etc. and the other is where you'll find the Corvette. I love driving by and seeing what is seemingly like a mile long row of Corvettes parked in front of that building. Very impressive.

My dad used to get his ZR-1 serviced there. I liked that place. They even sold memorabilia.

Here's a Chevy dealership in Maryland:

Sorry for the cellphone pic, but you work with what you got.

I like how the cars are displayed in the front windows on all three floors. They almost look like toys. I don't like how they still have "Oldsmobile" in huge letters across the front of the building.

Most Chevy dealers are like that. Partly because the Silverado and Corvette are the most recognizable nameplates under the Chevy badge.

Maybe all of their Corvettes are indoors for security reasons?????

Hit or miss with GM stores...I can only imagine what you all would rate my little Midwest store at!
That's the thing... there were a bunch in and outside. I mean, the Z06 I can understand but the rest were just regular Corvettes... they even had a pace car parked outside. It was bizarre.

Chevy Chase Chevrolet, funny.

All of the Oldsmobile signs have been removed from dealers down here in Miami for a while. Up unti about a year ago Grand Prize Chevrolet still had a Chevrolet-Oldsmobile GM marque sign, but they have since changed it to a Chevrolet only sign. They had a separate GEO sign for several years after GEO was gone.

Thats not to bad though, up until a while ago the one local Chrysler dealer still had Plymouth and Eagle signs.

Silverado 14/18

It wouldn't matter if the Corvette got 29 city MPG, it's known as an American V8 sports car and the whole gas guzzler thing just goes along with it.
Actually I think Smart is more of a gas guzzler. Its all relative to me. Size and performance to fuel used. In the Corvette Camry showdown the Camry.

Just because it has a V8 doesn't mean anything. Its just that alot of people get sucked in by advertising. Like 4 banger cars get turned into V6s and expect the same millage.

Lots of people drive to get somewhere.

Haha, a couple dealers not too far from me are still a bit behind the times - "Al Smith Chrylser Dodge Plymouth" and "Bowling Green Lincoln Mercury Jeep Eagle." Al Smith's sign probably dates to 1990 or earlier.

What's also funny is when you do a dealer search on the manufacturer websites. I have comes across a number of outdated listings that still list Oldsmobile or Geo.

I get more of an "At home feeling" at small dealerships. We (as a PBG store) use to sell alot into the closest Big market. (250 miles away) for that feeling. But the #1 GM Salesman in Canada lived between us (small market/big market).

Even though he was from a town under 5000 ppl. He was the #1 GM salesman in Canada for many years. Feeding from the city 125 miles to his east.
