Anyone think that they will let a 20 year old guy test drive a GTO? I just did a search, and rememberd that there is another pontiac dealer down the highway more. They have a black/black GTO auto. Do you think they will just let me test drive the GTO? Now, I dont look like im 20.. more like 26. Im nervious as I never test drove a car before. Im scared that they will tell me to go f off. This isnt a sunfire, this is a big name product car. Should I go? I just got a digi camera, and I plan on taking shots of it if anything. So how bout it guys?

doesn't hurt to go try. i knew a friend that was 21, and he had was told he had to give them a $500 deposit for him to test drive a suped up lancer once. lol guess if he wrecks because of all that HP, it'll cover their deductible. he did it of course, myself i'd have said "F*&# you and you lil POS, i'll go to another dealer".
If you were to do it, I think you should tell the salesperson that you have absolutely no intention of buying the car. Then see if he wants to let you drive one. If he values your future business, he'll let you do it.

Car salesmen are paid by commission only. If you are wasting their time, that's time they could be using to make money and feed their family.

How much are you going to learn in a 5-10 minute drive anyway? All new cars drive pretty well. You know the car is fast. I'm not sure what kind of "thrill" you're looking for. Chances are on a car of that nature, the salesperson will go with you (in Montreal the salesperson ALWAYS goes with you). With the salesperson in the car, you are not going to give the car the real life thrashing that you want to give it.

If someone gave me the opportunity to drive an exotic or other desirable car, I'd certainly take it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to have one.

I don't see many (if any) places that will rent out the GTO.

im a travel agent.. NO RENTAL agency will have a gto, coupes you'll most likely find are monte carlos, mustangs, sebring(even these are hard to get). some rental agencys specialize in exotic cars, but they probably wont consider the GTO exotic enough to be next to ferrari's, hummers, vette's.. even those charge about $500 a day +tax and require huge deposit against a credit card.

be carefull about giving money for a test drive. my mom was suckered into doing that once, then they said that she had to buy the car. i don't know the full details, but i'd never do business with that dealership again.
I can almost guarentee you won't drive the car if it's in the showroom. Dealers are reluctent to move a car out of there for a test drive normally anyway.
I went to an Oldsmobile dealership about a year ago, they had their last Aurora V8 on the showroom floor. They asked if I was interested and I said yes, so they took it off the showroom floor and let me take it out for a spin. I ended up going the the Farmer Jack parking lot a few miles down the road and did a wicked burnout. But, that wasnt a GTO :D
Maybe if you took one of your parents along they might consider it. I remember in high school myself and one of my friends would go around to dealers and waste their time. Only twice did it ever work. One was a 98 Neon R/T, and the other was a 97 Talon TSi AWD.
maybe if you just walk in there wearing your dads suit, talking on the cell phone to someone in london, snapping your fingers at the guy saying "i want to test drive this right away, and hurry because I have a flight to catch!!". just a thought!! ;)
Give it a try.
What do you have to lose?
What do you have to gain?
At least you have the opportunity to try. I would have to drive to Seattle for the same chance and I can afford one but no GTOs in Canada.
i've given up test driving cars i'm not going to buy. it's just teasing myself.

last year i signed up for a mini test drive in toronto at an unused airbase. i was all excited thinking i'd be set free on the asphalt. nope. a go-kart track was laid out with pylons, and it was designed so that it was driven in 3rd gear (manual). we're talking less than 40 km/h! they said it was more to test the handling, but ANY car could handle those curves going that slow! it was a major disapointment. and it was very closely supervised, so there was no way to hammer on it and go for a real drive.

what made it worth it was wailing on my own car across the large strips of asphalt leading to the test site! whohoo! now THAT'S a test drive!

i doubt a dealer will throw you the keys to a GTO to take on your own. and tooling around town with a grumpy salesman (who knows you're wasting his time) isn't my idea of fun. but enjoy the ride if you do go!

well I went on my adventure today, and I stopped by to snap a few shots with my new digi. I didnt get to drive either the CTSV or the GTO. Both cars, as you will see, was not inside the dealer.

The CTSV was still sweet like the last time I saw it.
The GTO is my third, and they still look very cool up close. One of the guys at the Pontiac dealer came up to me and was like "shes fast." I said "Can I see how fast she is?" He laughed and walked away!! Bad salesman, bad. I looked like a prospective buyer too, but I guess not enough. It was sitting right off the road(last shot was taken by me in the road) The GTO had 15 miles on her. She was dusty, and the tires look like they have been given a little burn out action. Im still hoping to see the Barbados Blue one by my gf. Maybe later this week if its still there.

For whatever reason, I just noticed this. Is it just me, or do the wheels on the GTO and 00-02 Cavalier Z24 look striking similar? :D
