I seem to remember reading an industry article about this engine that stunned me with how it was manufactured.

This engine, produced under the LX5 code, featured a significant innovation in relying much less on traditional tooling (and the investment to produce that tooling), which is why it was approved for exclusive application to Oldsmobile products.

The problem is that my puny brain can't remember the details (or the site on which I read what I remember to be a rather nice article/interview with chief engineer of this engine).

Anybody out there in GMI-land have knowledge and can direct me to a site that might provide this story? No search is now pulling this story, and I'd like to re-acquaint myself to it.

Thanks in advance.

In 1998, Bill Visnic of Wards Auto did an interview with Max Freeman, assistant chief engineer for Northstar, and Allen Cline, another engineer from GM Powertrain:

Everybody Likes to be Stroked GM's 3.5L Twin Cam basics are best

I don't have any other information but hopefully the Wards Auto piece may be a starting point for your research.
