Second generation Audi Q7 goes official with 325 kg weight loss

Following this morning’s leak, Audi has officially taken the wraps off the second generation Q7.

Billed as being the lightest model in its class, the overhauled Audi Q7 tips the scales at 1,995 kg (4,398 lbs) with the 3.0 TDI engine. It's up to 325 kg (716.5 lbs) lighter than its predecessor and approximately 26 percent more efficient. The massive weight loss was possible thanks to a lightweight chassis making extensive use of high-strength steel and aluminum which has made it more than 100 kg (220.5 lbs) lighter than before. A 71 kg (156.5 lbs) diet was achieved by implementing a multi-material body design including fully aluminum doors (shaving 24 kg), hood, front fenders and rear hatch.

Nice second gen Dodge Journey.

Looks like utilities have come full circle, they are looking like station wagons again.

And Malibu trim inside. Smooth.

In all seriousness, it looks neat inside, but... what was it, 8 or 10 years for this? What a wait for a letdown. What is this, Duke Nukem Forever?

I guess the significance of this is that we can probably expect a 716lb lighter Cayenne soon, too, and the Bentley SUV not too far in the future.

Whats DNF???? ;)

I gotta admit I like the profile of it a lot. The front grill area could use some help but its not too terrible and Audi lighting will certainly help it. I wonder what the MSRP will be.
Wow. Jenny Craig
Unfortunately, it got whooped with the frumpy stick. Audi is always try to create new segments. Now we have the "fat wagon" niche.

It does not look like a SUV with the lowered stance. It looks like more like a large wagon than a SUV. I don't think that's a good thing.

I'm sure it will great mechanically but it did nothing for Audi design, inside or out. I'm disappointed.

The interior looks quality but the exterior is a gigantic snooze fest. I predict the new Discovery and the production Jaguar CX-17 will both look way better at least on the outside. Inside Audi is almost peerless when it comes to interiors, so I hope JLR step up their game and bring it in that department.

The screen on top of the dash looks like a last minute addition
Hard to believe it was 5100lbs to begin with.

Now weighing only 4400lbs, it matches this...

Like the looks or not, the ride height will be really convenient - about the same as a mini-van. People will love the easy access (especially the older folks who can afford the Q7).

Note to GM... Please DO NOT follow the Germans and Mazda by tacking your next gen infotainment displays on top of the dash.

Actually, it will pretty closely match the weight of my first gen SRX.

I'd like to see the Lambdas lose 300-400 pounds.

The grille is too exaggerated and looks brutish while the rest of the car is conservative. The interior is sexy as always Audi is one of the best if not the best in the biz in this dept.
It reminds me of the Chevy Aveo mce right before they axed it and turned it into the Sonic they had slap a freakishly large grille on a vehicle that was not able to support it hell a half tonne pick-up could barely support it.

I have a Lambda. a 2013 2LT. There is nothing wrong with it. Its a big bus type 8 seater. hopefully it sheds some weight and and add trunk space without loosing its leg room in the next alteration.
Yuck!

Nothing wrong with a Lambda??? Yikes.
I wonder when we'll see the Cadillac XT5? There's no way Cadillac couldn't come up with a more compelling look than the new Q7.
