Yes, and i just think it's funny that as a Chevy that's ok, but we blast the Hyundai's and Kia's for copying other styling cues.
Chevy didn't engage in rather sloppy industrial espionage like Hyundai did w/Toyota a few years back.......no matter the circumstances there, it sort of taints one's reputation.

Remember if you ppl see a Malibu, please tell us what you thought of the interior.
It's not the exterior but teh interior that makes this car.

I saw a base 4 cylinder Malibu in a parking lot a month ago, it looks really good. I didn't really get to see the interior however. The owner came up to me and told me how happy he was with it. Said it had plenty of pep, and he was averaging 31 MPG. I see them on the road now and then, along with the new CTS.

When my dad is ready to toss his '02 Accord LX soon......I'll be damned if I don't try hard to get him down to a local Chevy dealer.....(though he likes the Buick LaCrosse too....judging by his last auto show visit in January ;) )

The base Malibu is also a very nice car, I think you will have no problem trying to sell him on it. My father had bad experiences with his last Chevy and I even got him to strongly consider the Malibu for his next car.

I think both need to be done right, the exterior is the first thing people see when entering the dealer, the interior is the last thing they see.

Either way I think some the shape in the rear looks kinda like a VW, but I wouldn't confuse it with a Passat.

Very true, and that is excellent. Hell, I think it's a fantastic looking car outside too, it looks great, just the back looks like a Passat.
The question is, did Chevy designers emulate the Passat's rear-end on the Malibu on purpose?
I mean, there are so many cars out there with all kinds of different looking behinds, you'd think it was random probability that the Malibu looks kinda like the Passat's. This in sharp contrast to the new Hyundai Genesis, which looks definately like a Benz up front and definately like a BMW in the rear.

I dunno, could be, it's not a bad ass to copy regardless.

As for the Hyundai, I was very disgusted when they decided to go with the blank grill. Remember when they were sifting through a couple choices- one looked exactly like a Benz, but with an H on it, and the other looked like a Benz that got beat with an ugly stick, but without the H.

Not even putting the badge there makes it even more blatant.

The Malibu could replace the Impala in a year or so too, my 05 is too creaky and groany for my tastes, and the front struts are making horrible crunching noises.

I don't know if it has split rear seats, which I can't go without after having them on the Impala though. Only thing they really need to change though is the 2 sizes too big steering wheel.

Yup. And having agreed with that, all of a sudden there seems to be a pantload of them running around here lately, so that says something. Our car sales dude says they're trading a lot of Camrys in on them for the proverbial double whammy.

I wish they had the round taillight treatment though, or at least a more Chevy-ish rear.

The back end does remind me of a VW. I drove one for a week on my last trip to visit family in Arizona. I liked it, the interior was well put together, quiet and had a great ride for the kind of car it is. It cruised on the highway at "normal" speeds for Arizona, though I wished it had the 6-speed instead of the 4-speed. Still, it got 27 MPG over the whole trip, and that includes driving at high elevations with 4 good sized people and lots of gear.

No badge on the front reminds me of a cheap Chinese knockoff....kinda like those Chinese toys that look similar to the real thing, but are obviously fakes.
