Sacrificing safety for romance

Actually it was only 2500. You can't buy anything safe for $2500 so I went with romance.

Old man couldn't drive this old Calais anymore so I saved it from having to carry a pair of 14" subs around on SSL king springs for the rest of its life . :D

What do you mean ? The VP had driver AND passenger airbags, ABS and IRS. Safe as houses I say :D

Nice pickup.

When they came out, I thought the rear wheel spats on the VP Calais would look weird and ill fitting pretty quickly but mostly they still look okay where still fitted and not removed to fit a set of 20" imitation HSV wheels...
I think VR was the debut of airbags. This one is all courage.
You are correct - for some reason, I always put the VP after VR/VS in my head even though I know it followed the VN. VS had the first passenger airbag.
What engine, mikmak?

Mad props for the location. A must-stop on the way to the Goldie.
Safety items only work if you crash. Avoid crashing!
tis the olde 3800. Sounds like a V8 though... or a Leopard tank. :D I didn't even get a pie while I was there! Just paused for a break.

Thanks chinamonty. I'll do my best. It's actually really relaxing to drive so very little danger of doing anything stupid.

Trying to think of a name.
Current front runners are Merl, Matilda and The Old Grey Mare.

More pics on my instagram feed
Mugwump.
Burnout pics please.

Also, will it do a handbrake turn?

3800 you say? Time for a supercharger top swap me thinks!

It looks like a cross between a Chevy Lumina in the front and a Second gen Taurus on the sides, with a dash of Subaru SVX sprinkled across the entire.
3800! I wonder what changes they made between that one and the one that ended up in the 98 Firebirds.
Will the blower off the early supercharged 3800 Monaros work?

In the end, LS1 swap is really the answer. I'll book my flight when you're ready to make the move.

Nice looking VP the old girl probably thanks you for saving it from the subs, actually worked out they dont put in sssl anymore just all the subs and wooden enclosures make the old springs sag.
MY Astra needs a new ecu and I dont want to spend anymore cash on it so I'm looking to do same except in Sydney your $2500 would be $5000 the market down here is so bad.
I'm so surprised to hear romance and a beige 90's sedan :lmao:

I clicked thinking like some kind of motorcycle or sports car or even a original Monaro...

Congrats! She looks like a nice old girl, I feel that the bonding will be strong in the future.

My VY Berlina wagon will be on the market soon - dual fuel V6 if you want to take a drive to Melbourne. Won't be $2500 but will be less than $5000.
So Mick, is this a new weekend cruiser, or have I missed something and the SV6 wagon has moved on ?
This is my new daily. I don't have enough time to keep driving test cars.... Actually I have time to drive them but no time to produce videos or even knock out a written review at the momen, so I'm semi retiring until I can clear the back catalogue.

My wife still has the SV6 wagon and won't give it up.... except for that blue SSV V8 I tested last year. :D

There's romance and there's lust.

Lust is quick, painful and expensive.

Romance is long lasting and just as exciting as lust if you know the right buttons to push and when. :p:

Melbourne is a bit far mate, going to clean up the Astra and put it on the market soon and see what I get for it. Then I'll either try and find something pretty quickly or hold out til tax time and use part of my return to what i get for the Astra and look for something then.
I Thought about getting something around the size of the Astra but i want something with some go and anything around Astra size with go will be out of my price range.
A V6 Commodore will be good enough go for me, although I did see a VTSS for sale today for $4500 and that got me thinking.
It's going to be my car so it wont do a lot of km because I have review cars nearly every week so even with an 8 my fuel bill won't be that much.
If you wanted some unsafe romance, I'd imagine you could find it for a lot less than $2500.

If you think I'm paying hourly rates I think our definitions of romance may be somewhat different.
