Renaming the Caddys

There was a topic earlier that had people arguing over whether the Cadillac line should have real names or use 3 letter names.

My vote is for real names.

Escalade should forever remain unchanged.
Deville should remain too.

But what about the other vehicles. The CTS and STS have gone way beyond what the Catera and Seville ever were and I think they need new names. The SRX and XLR are completely new and need names also, what should they be.

Post your ideas below.

I say that if they really want to go with the current style of numbers &/or names, they ought to revive their old numbering system: the Series 50, the Series 60, the Series 75. It's got historical value, and it's current!

And then make sure to do a really choice Series 60 Special - something as enduring and influential as the 1938, the first Series 60 Special:

1938 Series 60 Special

(The 60 Special was the first (or one of the first) cars William Mitchell designed for GM. Toward the end of his career, he did the first of the modern Sevilles, another of the greatest, most influential sedan designs ever. They both still look great. What a set of bookends for a career.)
Simple....

Just go with the show car names...they were very good.

SRX was the Vizon show car...so name it the Vizon.
XLR was the Evoq show car...so name it the Evoq.

The CTS had no show car that it was based on...but I always thought the name Calista sounded nice for a Cadillac, The 2006 Cadillac Calista

Imaj, which was used on a another show car was a pretty nice.

STS is easy, just leave it as the Seville
DTS, DHS, should just be the DeVille
The proposed ULS, Ultra luxury sedan, should be called the Sixteen, or Fleetwood, or just Series 90.

Of course we need to find room somwhere in there for an Eldorado too!

I'm not a big fan of the three-letter naming convention used by Cadillac, but STS is meant to signify Seville Touring Sedan. As for the others, I agree that Catera should be dropped as the CTS is more than an evolution of car it replaces. A previous post suggested Calista -- I like it.

I can see using a three-letter naming scheme ONLY if it represents an actual name, otherwise Caddy's might be confused with Acura's and I KNOW GM doesn't want that to happen -- Cadillac is in a different league than Acura. How embarassing it would be to mistake a TSX for a SRX!

Whatever Cadillac does, don't resurrect the ETC name although it did represent Eldorado Touring Coupe. Et cetera should not be associated with Cadillac. IMHO, GM should purge all memories of the old K-Bodies. This is now a new golden age at Cadillac.
I'm not a fan of the 3-letter scheme, but please, no contrived names.

Vizon? Evoq? Not for me, thanks. I'd take SRX over Vizon as a name.

Regardless, the name is secondary ... as long as the product is great. I'm enjoying my SRX V8 AWD. Cadillac rocks.
three letter names are the best..

I don't think it's a matter of "youth", but of preference (and maybe tradition) too. I don't care for the new naming convention either.
The Cadillac Calista? Reminds me of:

Well look on the bright side, it would be one of the few "Light" Cadillacs...

I don't think the 3Letter naming scheme is a problem, I just don't think they are using it properly. How are models being differentiated right now? For Example:

STS comes in two forms V6 and V8 so Cadillac is using this naming system:

STS V6 Starts at...BLAH BLAH BLAH
STS V8 Starts at...BLAH BLAH BLAH

I think they should incorporate a naming system...

STS 3.6 & STS 4.6

Or they could go crazy like Mercedes Benz and use three numbers:

STS 360 & STS 460

That was kinda scary, Tahoe. She should stay away from the mascara. :p
Yes, bring back the names, though some marketing genius at GM surely won't let this happen. There's no romance in the "STS" or the "SRX" or the whatever.
