Hello. I have a 2008 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab with 4WD.

When I have the truck in 4WD and turn at slow speeds the back tire(s) are locking up and dragging until more throttle is given or steering wheel is straightened. Is this normal? It is becoming quite awkward to park in a parking lots with 4WD on as it drags my tires and leaves marks on grass/dirt areas!

Thanks.

4WD Hi. Its understood now, due to the locking differential this is why it is happening. I use the 4WD in the snow/ice. There were several parking lots with half snow / half plowed pavement. I'll just have to disengage 4WD when it is not needed.

I came from a car with AWD and did not realize 4WD would act so differently.

As you can tell, this is my first truck.

Do you have autotrac?

Put it in 4 auto on those situations....but that doesn't have much to do with this issue.

It sounds to me like your rear diff is locking because of the slick pavement. I had to drive throught a ditch yesterday where the diff locked....maybe 15 feet or so after that I had to make a sharp right turn and had the exact same problem as you. It's not really a problem as the locker is acting exactly as designed.

As member12 said, it's normal. It happens to me every once in a while in slick conditions, but that's why it's there.

BTW, welcome to GMI and congrats on the nice new truck! :friday:
