R&T: 4 tracks, 3 pro drivers, ACR, Z06, GT2, LP560-4, GT-R, M3, EVO, R8, DBS, Exige S

Road and Track: The Ultimate Track Test!

Standings, total time and est. price:

251.92 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, $216K
251.98 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR, $101K
252.61 Nissan GT-R, $71K
254.89 Porsche 911 GT2, $194K
259.32 Audi R8, $126K
262.09 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, $79K
265.52 Aston Martin DBS, $272K
268.75 BMW M3 coupe, $67K
272.88 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR, $42K
273.83 Lotus Exige S 240, $73K

LP560, ACR and GT2 were on semi-slick tires.
ACR was the only car that arrived with its own crew chief, who optimized the suspension settings for each track.

The point-and-shoot choice? Clearly the Nissan GT-R (40.63 sec.). "As soon as you're even remotely straight," said Gary, "you can go to full throttle and it's just gone, where the other cars are just spinning tires and making smoke." Corner entry and apex phases, though, can be challenging with the driveline's computer "shifting power around based on what it thinks you want to do. If you catch it out," continued Gary, "it gets into an expected all-wheel-drive, heavy-car push, but then it's gone in the middle of the corner." Minimal turbo lag, massive power and a flat-as-Kansas cornering stance help the GT-R, as do the sticky optional Dunlops.

Finally, the BMW M3--a fast entry-level luxury car that rides on a European taxi frame--gets its rightful place near the rear.
Considering the Vette is so old, it finished where I'd expect: mid-pack.
The three top-cars--Viper, GT-R and Porsche--got to their respective positions by having engines with crank horsepower well in excess of 500 horsepower.
The Audi was surprising; I was expecting it to finish by the BMW, not the Vette.

IMHO, the Vette and the GT-R are the only true winners here. Both can do what the other cars can do (and in many cases do it better), yet they only cost 1/2 as much.
