Because we all know what a wonderful job it has done for GM up to this point. We have nothing but praise for the class leading Sunfires, Torrents and minivans. Why produce the best of the best when we can have 5 mediocre versions?
sure, GM has done some pretty blatant rebadges, the Sunfire and Torrent are great examples of this, but so far the HUMMER brand has stuck to its plan, and that has been to build unique and fully capable vehicles. the H2 and H3 neither resemble any other GM, nor do they perform like any other GM. they are fully off-road capable, they are built incredibly tough, and they do everything they are advertised to do. GM has a mission with HUMMER and so far they are right on target. i don't think you'll se a bad rebadge with a HUMMER emblem on it, if it's not capable of the things other HUMMERs are, then it will never wear the HUMMER name. i think you can be sure of that.

I'm excited to hear that development of the Camaro concept is going
forward. It should be just a matter of time until it's an approved
project.

As much as I hate the 355, I'd rather see it put on that. A Hummer on the Theta doesn't sound right. Would the Theta even be able to tackle the off-road challenges that the other Hummers do? Just figure you need a big/beefy frame if you're gonna expect it to take that kind of abuse. Sure none of them ever take them off-road, but Hummer should maintain it's off-road prowness, unlike what jeep is doing right now.

Maybe be the GMT355 platform.
so we would have two 355's in the H3/4?

I read somewhere that H4 would be on a shortened GMT355. Should make a nice Wrangler competitor.

In terms of badge engineering, I think GM is getting away from it - no SV6 replacement, no Relay replacement, only 2 GMT360s.

Why in heaven's name do we need the HT (Hummer Truck). It doesn't make any sense, what a waste of resources. The H4, yes I approve, but if not theta what are they going to base it on?
An H3T or H2T would serve as a niche truck, just another flavor of truck with brawny, in your face appeal.

GM would sell those well, there should at least be an H3T or H2T

i hope it's GMT-355 based... kinda like the old Izuzu Amigo was a shorter, 2-door Rodeo with availible cloth top.... the H4 should be like that to the H3 IMO.

And GM NEEDS an H4

they've got jeep wrangler and FJ cruiser just below the H3, with an H4 they can take over they entire market from 2/4 door small to larger H1

If the H4 was to be on Theta, then it would have to be heavily modified, hence what Bob Lutz said. Another BOF platform would be much more cheaper for GM and also create a very good product. Offer the I-5, 2 and 4-door editions, cloth top option, roll cage, and legendary Hummer like styling and I'm happy.

GM does not NEED an H4. It would be nice, and probably would sell without rebates. But GM does not NEED it.

GM NEEDS the new Malibu to be a hit. It NEEDs the Impala to overtake the Accord in sales. It NEEDs the 900s to sell without incentives for at least 12 months.

I read this on TCC too. I hope that if it is true, that they get it right. I hope that the H4 is a great product and that Camaro is a knock-out in execution.

What would they base the H4 on? A shortend version of the Canyon/Colorado platform?

If the H4 is something that brings excitement to GM in the meantime, then yes we need it as well as the camaro as soon as possible while we are waiting for the new impala and malibu that will be class leading (optimism).

Thats the platform I was thinking of as well. I just hope if it is used, they'd be able to keep it on the lightside. Even the Colorado 4200lbs, I would hope a H4 would be under 4000lbs.
A regular cab 2wd Colorado is 3300lbs. and the 4x4 Z71 Crew is about 4100lbs. 355 would be a good platform and I'd expect weight in the high 3000's (3800lbs.?)

Hummer stole I mean borrowed the grille from Jeep, so they might as well just copy the whole vehicle. :D
Hummer and Jeep share the same history. AM General

ah, so uneducated, such an ignorant statement.

yeah, i guess they are exactly the same. i wish people would give HUMMER the props they deserve.

Not a good sign of how GM works. Why on earth does the board have to approve the production of a car and someone like Lutz doesn't have a say?

"'There is no reason to assume they would turn it down,' he said of
the GM board."

Camaro, its at "no brainer" status right now.

H4, this thing needs to fight the FJ and the new Wrangler at the same time. I think that something with a quad door set up, like the FJ, on a short 355 chassis, but can have the I-4 and I-6 mated to either 6spd auto or 6spd manual.

Oh great, I can see it now, a Theta based Hummer competing against the Wrangler????

The Wrangler is the only TRUE off-road vehicle that Jeep has. Not only that, but its successful. If GM is going to compete with this head on, they need a Small platform that can handle serious off roading and compete equally if not better than the Wrangler. If they dont have that, it will never sell over the Jeep.
