The car looks really good in person.
I am glad so many of you like it and I am sure it will do really well. MPG, Fit and Finish, and refinement will be top notch. I can see the new Malibu do what the Cruze did, quickly move into the top 3 in pricing power and retail sales.

I didn't like the pictures, so i traveled to nyc to see it in person. There was not one good angle. I cant describe what was off in my pov but it seemed like nothing matched anything else on the car. The Malibu was on display all by itself and I sat there for 30 mins trying to find a reason to like it. Though odd with several weird angles, it does look more premium than anything else in the segment and that is what will finally matter. Still, I wish they had spent 5 more minutes cleaning up the front and the rear.

GM really seems to have done their homework, on paper it really looks like they got it right. GM's new management seems to understand how to build great cars, the real problem that they haven't figured out yet is marketing.

Will it rocket to #1 and dethrone the Camry? No chance, people are to firmly entrenched in their brands. But can this get to Fusion levels of volume? I think it can!

Lets not forget dimensions; overall, wheelbase, interior space and the V6 engines the Malibu doesn't have.................
Wow, you ALWAYS manage to find something negative to say about GM. I bet you're hoping they go BK again. Sad you can't find anything good to say about the company you bought a few products from.

I'm sure this new Malibu will see an uptick in sales but there's no way it'll beat the top three in the segment (which seems to be contracting). Attractive yes, but not necessarily a standout. Still if I had to pick a midsize car, it would be either this or the Fusion.

You just noticed that? Lol

I want to like it, but I guess I'm going to have to see one in person. Just can't get used to that front end.😬
From every other angle but straight-on its a winner. Its got bitter beer face.

Product placement bulletin from GM: Don't park 2016 Malibu next to Impala on dealer lots.

Wow. Worse than I thought it would be. The "brow line" that comes straight across the lights and upper grille is awful and give the car a dumpy face. The grille grate being flush with the frame and body is terrible. The DRLs... the hell is that with the little chrome piece at the bottom that doesn't seem to match the width of the lights?

So many little angles and surfaces it just all over the damn place. What a mess. Hopefully it'll sell just based on it not being totally boring.

Still have not warmed up to the front, at all. Too much weird going on, I honestly don't know where to start. And if you were to show me a pic of the rear of this and the Impala, and I had choose which was which, I'd be lost. That's not a good thing.

All the things you take issue with, I like... which proves beauty really is in the eyes of the beholder. I think it will do VERY well. Based on your comments I am fairly confident I would not like the car you would design.

Please - What did I say that was un-true!?

Am I the only one that has stated the Malibu was heavier than its competition?

The higher HP and more efficient 2.5L engine was offset with a heavier car, so performance and fuel economy were about as average as they could get; it was part of what hurt the sales of the 2013-15 Malibu.

Muckabuck's post was in response to LONGHORN's comment about the current Malibu being overly heavy, if you just look at the numbers he posted it doesn't seem so.

If he had only the weights of comparable trims & powertrains, I would have made no comment, because it wouldn't have been anywhere near as mis-leading.

What about the fact that he didn't even list the lightest cars in the Midsize segment?

If the current Malibu wasn't overweight then why the **** to GM go to such lengths to take weight out of it!?

WOW, nice slam on GM, saying you are just as likely to buy a 3-year old Fusion as this new car that isn't even for sale yet............... hater.

I picked the Fusion over the Malibu, but it was 2013 Malibu which has proven to be a segment also-ran....................

You have the above mentioned dimensions available?

Do you typically normalize weight based on overall dimensions of a car in the same class? I've never seen anyone do that when comparing weights of a car in the same class. It's not like anyone is trying to compare the weight of the upcoming Malibu to a full size SUV.

Forget Curb Weights, who knows what the mfg's throw out or do and don't include: measured weights are best!

It's pretty nauseating, for sure.
