Vauxhall Viva city car spied ahead of 2015 launch
Debut alongside the Karl at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2015
October 29, 2014
Auto Express

This is the new Vauxhall Viva, the first product of Luton to wear the Viva badge since 1979. The sub-£7,000 Viva will be available as a five-door hatch only (in contrast to the pricier three-door only Adam) and based on a new GM platform, rather than recycling the Corsa’s architecture.

The spy photos reveal details of the Viva’s styling, there’s evidence of the ‘blade’ graphic in the doors that we’ve seen on the Insignia and Zafira Tourer, while the rear appears very similar to the Corsa five-door’s. Key to the car’s appeal is low running costs – the Viva must be seen to stand apart from the more premium Adam which focuses on highly customisable designs.

The Viva is however likely to be available with the same 1.0-litre triple-cylinder turbo engine which has revitalised the Adam and easily been our favourite engine in the new Corsa. Sub-100g/km CO2 emissions and in excess of 70mpg are expected on the official EU test cycle. We’re expecting to see the Viva make its debut alongside the Karl at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2015.

Glad to see the work is progressing. However, I'm very curious to see how the final product looks when compared to the next Spark/Matiz. Since the development of the Spark/Matiz was started before the (rather stupid) decision to kill of Chevrolet in Europe, and GM Europe's decision to offer up a slate of "cheap" Opel/Vauxhall products to fill the void is rather new, I wonder if it will be just a Spark/Matiz with a different nose or a full-on Opel/Vauxhall exterior design?

The Viva will be very well received in austerity hit Europe with sub £7k price, the Karl will be a rebadged Spark, the Viva will different but based on the Spark platform.

Corsa sales are going to be cannibalised disappear in the UK & rest of austerity hit Europe who will warm to a Dacia priced Opel/Vauxhall, Germans might not warm to it because its not made in Germany, unknown factor quantity will be the South Korean build quality that is piss poor.
