Here's a story how onstar solved a crime. This article is partially false. Onstar actually is the one that contacted the Macomb Country Sherriff's department with the information on the jacking, since the gentleman contacted them first.
They found a loaded handgun and two 17 year olds in the car.
Onstar should advertise the hell out of this one. It was on fox2, but I couldn't find a link to the video. If anybody wants to try, the address is

I'm almost up on my one year, I'm also at the end of my Summer Special Directions & Connections. I think I'm going to renew both. The minutes are nice, but I probably won't buy those.. However, that Directions package is great. Its gotten us hotels at 2:00 in the morning, directions to theme parks, and reservations at some nice restaurants. I'll keep it.

unless we pay for upgraded services, we get the "peace of mind" services.
Mock it if you will but that "peace of mind" has saved many lives and I'm sure those people would be glad to pay the subscription fee. I was skeptical of Onstar at first but now I refuse to buy a vehicle for my wife & I without the Onstar service.

I have OnStar on my G8 and used the navigation feature on a family trip in the summer during a free trial month. It worked really well, but I don't like the idea of paying for the service when I have a paid for $150 GPS unit that still gets the job done.

Like it or hate it, Onstar did it's job and did it well.

My Father swears by it, but I could go with or without it personally.

as a salesperson I love explaining the features and benefits of OnStar. personally, I have used the unlock feature more than once, and really appreciate the convenience of turn by turn. the diagnostics have come in handy with a fair number of clients. although pricey for regular cell phone users, the availability of emergency use and hands free calling are perfect for some folks. all in all, OnStar is great.

You took the words right out of my mouth!

Imagine, you and your 13 month old are travelling home one night on a county road. You hit a patch of ice. Your wheels lock up. You loose control and begin to slide. You try to keep it straight but your rear tires catch the edge of the road. Youve flipped upside down in the ditch. Its 11 o'clock at night. Its dark. The ditch is about 15 feet from the edge of the curve and about 6 feet deep. Bull rushes and catails poke up from the snow drifts totally blocking the view of the car from the road (not that it matters. Theres at least 30 minute intervals between passing cars on this stretch of road). Your head has hit the steering wheel and youre loosing conciousness. The car is upside and water begins seeping in. "Oh god! Hows my she?" She sits strapped into her car seat, unhurt, but, upside down with the water level rising. "Oh god! If I only I could get myself free. If I could get her to the road, there might be a chance. No one will find us down here. Wll either drown or freeze......." You black out. "Mr. Smith, this is OnStar. Our systems show that your airbag sensors have gone off, is everyone ok?" No response. "Mr. Smith?". Nothing but your daughter crying. "Mr. Smith, we are sending accident response to your location immediatly." The call goes out. Luckly for you, the ditch your car is in is on the property of a local farmer, who is a volunteer firefighter hears the Emergency call over his scanner. Within minutes, you can hear him and his dog running towards you as you drift in and out consciousness....

Yes, please give me my Onstar. That security alone is worth the $25/mo its costs....

I like on star but I never use it. Our free year is 6 months through now and aside from a test at the begining, it's never used.
Yep. You never use it .....until you need it. Don't use auto insurance either....until you need it.

As long as you are convinced you will NEVER need emergency services on the road, get locked out of your car, have an accident, run out of fuel, etc...skip the expense.

As for me, I have had enough experience to know stuff happens and I'm more than happy to pay for the peace of mind...and yes I have used it.
