New car sales in Norway soar 15.7% year-on-year in September to 17.992 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 35.1% to 128.856. BEV sales surge 45.8% to 13.946 and a record 77.5% share, they are up 67.2% year-to-date to 80.558 and 62.5% share. Meanwhile PHEV is down -19.9% to 2.508 and 13.9% share for the month, up 47.6% to 28.581 and 22.2% year-to-date and HEV tumbles down -48.5% to 582 and 3.2% share in September, and down -7.5% to 8.046 and 6.2% year-to-date. All-in-all, electrified vehicles account for a whopping 94.6% of the Norwegian market in September and 90.9% year-to-date, just as petrol sales drop to just 3% for the month at 4.7% year-to-date and diesel sales sink to 2.3% in September and 4.4% so far this year.

As the Model Y continues to gear up and with the Model 3 still selling strong, Tesla (+301.8%) breaks all records this month with a gargantuan 32.1% share thanks to 5.782 units spread on only two models. This is 4 times more sales than the #2 Volkswagen (-47.2%) and allows Tesla to climb from #4 to #1 year-to-date. Hyundai (+40.3%) and Audi (+65.6%) follow with very solid gains, while Toyota (-29.2%) struggles and closes out the Top 5. Ford (+207.8%) and Skoda (+83.2%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10. Further down, notice Citroen (+211.1%), Lexus (+180.6%) Jaguar (+108%) and Mazda (+63.2%) all posting splendid upticks.

Model-wise, the Tesla Model Y repeats at #1 and surges to a surreal 19.8% share as months’ worth of orders are delivered to customers, but the Tesla Model 3 (+98.7%) doesn’t miss out and reaches an equally extravagant 12.3% share for the month. The Model 3 cements its YTD domination while the Model Y climbs to #6 so far this year. The Skoda Enyaq is up 13 spots on August to land on the third step of the podium, distancing the Toyota RAV4 (-10.6%) and Audi e-Tron (+24%). Three new EV launches follow the VW ID.4 is down three ranks to #6, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 remains at #7 and the Ford Mustang Mach-E is down six spots to #8. The VW ID.3 (-77.1%) and Nissan Leaf (-13.3%) round out a Top 10 that includes 9 EVs. Among recently launches Chinese EVs, the BYD Tang is down 11 spots on last month to #68, the Xpeng G3 is down 6 to #106 and the NIO ES8 down 21 to #120.

All well and good. Norvay is not exactly the real world, however. It's statistically and financially an insignificant dot on the map.
