Well the Chlorophyll beauty is sitting at (just about) 91,500kms as we speak so it's time to start thinking of the replacement. I've been really keen on a Calais but have seen some really nice SV6s lately. But I'm not really buzzing with the thought of stepping up to a new one.

You may have noticed that I haven't been around as much lately, just not feeling it anymore.

Anyway went to the Liberty/Outback launch at the local dealer tonight and I am booked in for an hour test drive on Wednesday of the Outback 2.5. Always liked Subaru.

I'd go back to Subaru like a shot, but my needs have moved on and they don't currently make anything suitable - I test-drove the outgoing Outback when they introduced the diesel-automatic combination, it was sublime blowing away all my preconceptions of a CVT transmission even though it's 150bhp H4 diesel was lacking in outright performance.

If they made a modern version of the B9 Tribeca with a 3.0 H6 diesel and CVT automatic they could have my deposit on announcement day - as long as they promise not to hit it with the ugly stick like they did the original.
Get those RWD Commodores while you can, Future classics for sure.

Hi RT,

The Liberty/Outback is quite roomy in this edition. I Know that doesn't help if you need 7 seats though. :) I'm no longer in that situation, but it's the reason I bought two Captivas in the past.
And the Outback comes with a full size spare, which is becoming rarer and rarer.

I agree on the first version of the Tribeca, to keep this G rated I'll just say it's front grille resembled a ... Edsel.
I saw an Outback the other day and loved it, it's has a great profile and I like the shape of it. It's a real cross between wagon and SUV. Let us know how the test drive goes!

Curious, do you have any animosity towards Holden now, or is it simply time to try some different makes?
Please at least test drive the SV6 - manual if you can. I love mine and I am as jaded about GM as anyone. Give the guys at Elizabeth a bit more work.

Subys will be my next choice if they can come up with something a bit less ugly. The current models make the original L series look like a catwalk model in comparison.

Having said that stay tuned for my latest purchase - your post is timely. I show more tomorrow...

1982 Mazda RX-7 - SOLD !!
I totally forgot that you had purchased an RX-7! I remember the pictures now, your son was in the drivers seat I think. Sad to see it is gone.

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread!
I'm still looking too - I sort of need to get 3 or 4 cars to get everything I want lol

Wife still wants the SV6 but is now leaning towards LPG model to save on fuel , however this would mean second hand with low kays as new car LPG prices are not economical

Seen a few low 30's with less than 30k on the clock which would suit perfectly

Me,

Well I could just take over the Berlina and run it till it stopped which would probably last me another 10 years as its in pretty good nick

Would much rather an SS ute

We were over it - it smelled bad, no power steering and the kids both want to do track racing - the idea of 180kmh down the straight at Philip Island in a 35 year old car was a worry.

Here is a sneak peak:

Hi guys,

Jaded is the word. Not animosity as such. But some of the **** that flys around this site sometimes gets up my nose.

I am comparing a SV6 against a Calais next week as well. TBH it's probably running SV6 60%, Calais 30%, Outback 2.5 10% ATM.

May as well take a closer peek though.
Off to Wakelings at 2pm to view Calais & SV6 one after the other. Subey tomorrow.

Possible fly in the ointment. Holden Facebook announcement the other day that another 'Storm' style (I guess?) LE on the SV6 is imminent. Anyone know anything about it? I'm a little amped - this could be what I want depending on cost Vs inclusions.
Ok. Very nice. I'd have the Calais a nose ahead.... But that may change once the quotes roll in.

Btw the Calais was in a 'test colour' a beautiful blue called 'Slipstream'. I would buy in a heartbeat.
I liked the Calais but my wife liked the SV6

We looked at brand new ones demos and lightly used second hand Calais with about 20k on the clock

But they were white

I'm sure it was just the colour with the Calais

I wanted it at just over 33k drive away but the wife was the one who had to drive it most of the time

Mrs vetoed the Calais 'looks like a Toyota' based on the photo in the brochure, in silver. Texted her a pic in this blue and she now gives a ThumbsUp.

I should get you to negotiate my next car purchases. $33k drive away on a new or "demo" Calais is a great deal.:

It was second hand with about 20k on the clock 2013 build we looked at it just before Christmas
Well may have been a big mistake....

Yesterday had confirmed in my mind that I was going SV6/Calais depending on how the $ fall.
Just back from an hour test drive of the new Outback 2.5i that I had already booked.
What a nice car - I really like it. And it's around 10k cheaper than the outgoing 2014s, so the money matches up well. SV6 Vs 2.5i, Calais Vs 2.5 Premium.

Now... Do I want a sedan or do I want a raised wagon ?
How much do I want to spend? Spreadsheet time to compare inclusions.

This may take a while.
