a member from another site has shared his info on what he heard from a friend on the inside.
this is what he said.

I just got off the phone with a buddy of mine who works in the V8 group at GM in Milford. This may be old information.

The SSR will be upgraded to a 380 hp LS2

Chevy will offer an "HHR" version of the SSR that will take styling cues from the 55-57 Chevy Nomad.

The C6 will get a 500 hp 7 liter LS7 engine in its second year of production. They are anticipating producing a 640 hp 8.75 liter V10 engine for the third year of production.

The Cadillac XLR will have a supercharched Northstar producing over 400 hp.

The rumor he has heard is that the Camaro (possibly not the Firebird) will be returning based on the Holden platform not the Sigma.

We're going drinking this weekend. I'll bring a pen so I can make more notes on the bar napkins
All of that seems to be really good news. This along with the info on the Buick is all really really really good fawking news. Im soo excited. Why do embargo days feel like Christmas?

That'd be kinda out of the blue if they made a v10, and kind of a give up on the essence of the V8. It'd be nice of the SSR got some more guts, and I think we've all heard of the HHR. Will it be based of the SSR platform, or a sedan platform?

OH YEAH! If this isn't bullbleep ask him about the future of the Nomad concept.
The man works for GM powertrain, but I will see if he can ask his friend about the Nomad.

I find it had to belive (based on rumor) that Chevy would drop 50+ years of V8 development for a V10 in the Corvette. Sure it go like crazy - but i just wouldn't be the same.

Sorta like the oh-so-close-to-production mid-rear engined rotory powered Corvette that almost saw the light of day.

He also talked about the 5.3 going into teh GP. Engine code number is LS4. He said that the engine package was for GP, Monte and Impalla. He said it was for mid year of 2005.

I doubt that it would be called the ls4.....that would mess up GM's engine naming scheme. my guess would probably be the same as a current 5.3 or something very close to that.

not if the 5.3 is made for car use, and not truck. Just like the 6.0 truck motor is diffrent then the 6.0 vette motor, they get different rpo engine codes. The 5.3 going in thoes cars would get a whole new design to be able to be mounted transversly.

The RPO doesn't really make a difference to most of us, but it'd be neat if they continue on the 'LSx' engine codes. Makes my '79 blazer with a 'LS9' seem special! Haha, that lazy smogger 350....

Most of that corresponds to what we already heard with the exception of the HHR. That was supposed to be on the Delta platform. Now we know the GP and Impy get the 5.3 next year that will be torque limited to keep the 4t65EHD alive. Also Brandon told us about the SS getting a bump almost a year ago. The Z06 vette will carry a 7.0 L but not next year it will most likely be a year after that. Also LS4 was on the RPO code sheet that MervZ had on here like 6 months ago along with it being a 5.3 All aluminum V8 with DoD. So most seems accurate. The panel wagon SSR idea has been thrown around but I believe it got stalled in development a while ago. We shall see how much of this turns out to be true.

GM is developing a V10, but I haven't heard that it will be going in the Vette. The 427 is in development for the Vette. GM is dropping production of the big block (496) and replacing it with a 7.5L V10, based off the 6.0L V8 small block.

GM did research a v10 GenIII when the engines first came out and decided against it because of packaging and also fuel economy. I think now DOD has changed that. By shutting off two or four of the cylinders you can make it get the same gas mileage as an 8 or a 6. The Escalade will probably be the first to receive the XV8 followed by the HD silverado and also Sierra. I would also suspect the H2 will be looked at to launch the 10s.

Actually, the new V10 will NOT have DOD as an option.

I seen the 5.3 V8 a couple months ago in a GP GXP 2005 model, I wonder if this is what he was talking about?

The 5.3 the GP, Monte, and Impala are getting IS called the LS4 like Bigal stated.
