A new Mercedes-Benz S-class cabriolet will be launched later this year, it has been confirmed.

Speaking at the first drive of the Mercedes-Maybach S600, Martin Hulder, project manager for the S-class, said: "I can confirm that there will be a car for star gazers later in the year."

The car had only previously been seen in disguised form. Spy shots reveal that the S-class cabriolet will make use of a folding soft-top roof.

The Mercedes S-class cabriolet will open up a fresh niche for large luxury 2+2 soft-tops, occupying territory close to the Bentley Continental GTC.

Hello Johan de Nysschen - When is Cadillac going to get their Elmiraj (type) convertible out?

And that's the sad part because an ElMiraj convertible would absolutely destroy the S class coupe convertible in the looks dept IMHO!

No, in 2085 you'll get an s coupe rival. The Convertible will be in 2087.

To me a 'decadent' or opulent convertible should come before an ATS version.

This is the epitome of Cad - not some kinda 2+2 thingy

with the cooperation between MB and Aston Martin, will this infringe on Vanquish?

Is that rhetorical?? We can't even get an ATS or CTS Convertible out the door. And you expect a flagship convertible at the $100,000 price point?
Suuuuuuure....

Aston Martins won't sit on the W222 platform. My guess it would be on a modified R231 (SL-Class) or whatever AMG GT is on.

Sounds more Cadillac than an ATS convertible.

Sure. A car like that is the Eldorado.
But getting that thru the army of accountants is a Sisyphean feat.

Of course it was.

I've always advocated for an Omega family of vehicles. But right now, we're just getting CT6, which is essentially the answer to the SWB flagships. Cadillac still needs to go up a half-teir to compete with the LWB flagships. And then they still need a coupe before we can even think about a grand touring convertible.
And if their focus is on a sub-ATS and a compact CUV, the chances of getting the uber-convertible are next to zero.

I have more faith in Jaguar relaunching the XK family of cars before Cadillac launches the Omega family.

Regarding an Omega family, I would like the coupe/convertible, CT6, and CT8 to bear different designs. Not totally clean sheet, but appreciably different.

Do you "think" they will?

That would be nice.

Are you asking me if I "think" they will or "know" they will...

Hi, Monaro. It seems that you know a lot:cool:
Can you tell me, if they are going to produce a big coupe that will be the s coupe's rival? And if yes, then when?At least approximately. I'm talking about the coupe, not the vert) Thanks)

They will replace the elmiraj with a new concept? Why and when?
It's time to make a real car, not the concept again.
