If it has 1000 miles of range, you would only need to charge once every few weeks for everyday driving. So does 1,000 cycles potentially mean about 3 years of daily charges? I would like 10X that

I guess it depends on what a cycle is considered. If it has 1000 miles of range, you would only need to charge once every few weeks for everyday driving.
That's what I'd figure. At some point we hopefully will get this all worked out so that we get much more power(range) out of a heck of a lot smaller battery.Good point! I would assume this point is just to emphasize that you can get 4x the power from the same sized battery. I'd presume that for regular consumers we'd get a battery 1/4th the size or something along those lines.
Why would you want to carry 1000 miles of range around 100% of the time. Other than extreme uses like trailering, 400 miles is more than enough for me. I’ll let everyone else lug all that extra weight around.
Most people aren't towing a 10klbs trailer over the Rocky Mountains, they are hauling their boat/camper/trailer to their cabin/campspot a few hours a few times a year, outside of commercial/business purposes. That being said, peopel buy PU/SUV's for that capability(amongst others), so they do need to figure that out to some extent moving forward.Whenever a significant towing requirement is introduced for ICE or BEV, range becomes about a third of normal light cruise range. Now ICE vehicles have the advantage of large enough fuel tanks and options to guarantee a decent range when towing. For BEV to succeed, it needs something like the mentioned 4x capacity of solid state to allow a battery half the size and weight but double the range.
Maybe the answer is well thought out battery size options that avoids disappointing BEV buyers who will be doing moderate amounts of towing.
Yes, your needs can vary. Perhaps a sectional battery, that you can remove a large portion of, when you are just commuting. Add the "travel pack" when you are travelling or hauling loads. Most people aren't towing a 10klbs trailer over the Rocky Mountains, they are hauling their boat/camper/trailer to their cabin/campspot a few hours a few times a year, outside of commercial/business purposes. Or Voltec, which RAM is supposedly considering.....Yes, your needs can vary. Perhaps a sectional battery, that you can remove a large portion of, when you are just commuting. Add the "travel pack" when you are travelling or hauling loads.
Well, not Voltec, that's GM's thing....are they considering a PHEV version of their truck? All the RAM site shows is their REV Truck which is a BEV, not a PHEV.Or Voltec, which RAM is supposedly considering.....
That would be useful in a pickup.Yes, your needs can vary. Perhaps a sectional battery, that you can remove a large portion of, when you are just commuting. Add the "travel pack" when you are travelling or hauling loads.
I know that, but being on a GM site.......Well, not Voltec, that's GM's thing....are they considering a PHEV version of their truck? All the RAM site shows is their REV Truck which is a BEV, not a PHEV.
Oh i didn't mean to sound like I was correcting you, I was just asking if that's what RAM was going to do.I know that, but being on a GM site.......Supposedly they are doing both, PHEV and BEV. Obiviously, it be there system, not GM's. But its all vaporware until it actually is in production and for sale.

And what of its configuration and how much space it steals from the bed and perhaps
Now THAT is a crazy idea. Who'd of thunk? Little Honda generator in the bed?
Imbed it in the bed. Stick it in the frunk. Everything is a compromise of some sort, starting with lektrik. If you want extended range you deal with it. Be all you can be!And what of its configuration and how much space it steals from the bed and perhapsmaybe payload?
