New Buick Electra 5 EV Breaks Cover Completely Undisguised In China

Official photos of the upcoming, all-electric Buick Electra E5, have been published by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in China. The photos show the Ultium-based, five-seat, electric crossover in all its glory.

It features a design that is reminiscent of the Electra X concept, albeit significantly toned down for production. A filled-in, but still patterned grille, is the first clear indicator that this is an all-electric vehicle.

The general shape of the non-grille, and it’s interaction with the side elements clearly comes from the Electra X concept, as do the thin headlights, though their DRLs are much less complex than those installed on the show car.

According to the documents, the Electra E5 is 4,892 mm (193-inches) long, 1,905 mm (75-inches) wide, and 1,681 mm (66-inches) tall. That makes this about 250 mm (10-inches) longer than the American Buick Envision, and about 300 mm (12-inches) shorter than the Enclave. The vehicle will be offered with 18- and 20-inch wheels.

Woof. That's a let down so far - let's see if the official US images are better. But from these, I don't like the overall shape (too clunky) or looks. Doesn't look premium at all from the outside.
