You could tell them the CTS has a V8, a better warranty, and is larger. But those would be lies. ;)

In all seriousness I would HIGHLY caution them against buying a first-year anything....let alone a Hyundai!

They just called me from a dealership in Baton Rouge. The real question:

How do I get them into a CTS?
Better yet, get them into a G8. It's a tad larger than the Genesis, get's better gas mileage, can actually outhandle a BMW 5 Series. Oh, and it's not hideous. And it's not a first year.

But the first year argument would work well here to delay.

I think the G8 is more appropriate to an, erm, younger buyer. More mature buyers aren't likely to be wooed by the G8's somewhat hairy image!

I think I am too late.

They are doing the paperwork on a red $37K Hyundai that they never heard of before they "forgot" to forward one of my car magazines to my new address in Atlanta yesterday.

I'm trying to get them to look at an MKS. They keep calling me asking me if I think the Genesis a good car. I can't lie...it's a good car, and for what the Lexus dealer offered for their trade, I'd say it's a steal compared to what you get with an ES.

My mother thought the G8 was for a younger person, and thought the Buick's steering felt funny". She liked the Honda Accord and Saturn Aura, but apparently thinks the Genesis is a much better car.

My brother used to have a Hyundai sedan that had some issues. They know about that. I also know that a few weeks ago, my Dad kept telling me how much he liked the Chrysler 300C but he couldn't get my mother to consider one. This must be the compromise.

First model year argument stands pretty nicely here.
I explained that this car was a gamble....both in resale value and durability.

Then my dad promptly responded "So is that lame Buick you told me to look at." This is from a CPA that can barely change his own oil without complaint and can't be trusted at all with any home repair. He also thought that Saturn was an Australian car until I corrected him a while back.

They are so old!

Congrats on your parents new purchase, and one more grain of sand in the hourglass that is pouring sand (money) into Asian manufacturers hoping to destroy the North American industry through ignorance and selfishness.

My only hope is that more follow them, and put the North American industry out of its misery as soon as possible, so that we can get the coming depression out of the way, and continue on course to being a service industry only economy, with a far lower standard of living attached.

They looked at a Lucerne...said they thought it was garbage and the dealerships were dirty. I can't help it if Buick doesn't want to sell cars. They came close to getting an Aura, but decided to increase their price range at the last second.

The MKS and CTS would have been my last try on them. I didn't even know they were looking at cars this afternoon. They should be getting ready for the LSU game.

I have yet to see one, but it looks to be a nice looking car making a better entry into that market than did Lexus and Infiniti years ago with lame rebadges (M 30?). Plus I gather that Hyundai has moved past their quality issues, just as GM seems to be doing.

I've seen a few they actually look pretty nice (for a hyundai). It's not a wise move that they decided to get the car on the very first model year but there choice. personally I would've went for a CTS or a AWD MKS

Well, it's confirmed. They are doing the paperwork on a shiny new Korean car.

I'll have to give you guys a full review when I return home for Thanksgiving.
How ancient are these creaky old buzzards anyway? :bounce:

My comments were not directed at you or your family, just a general comment on North American ignorance in general.

I think you're a great poster, and enjoy reading your views. If I left any disrespect with you, then I apologize.

Guess I pissed in my own cornflakes this morning; I'm on a "rant roll" today. :p:

While I personally wish (and wish for you, AND for them) that they would have put the competition into better consideration (CTS, MKS), all things aside the Genesis is A LOT of car for the money

I think it's time for an INTERVENTION. :yup: :yup: :yup: :yup:

If you can't get IROCNROL1 to talk them into an Elantra, get them to go to the KIA dealer to drive a Mighty Spectra.
Tell them it's a Neanderthal car. :bio::
They should understand, if they are as old as you say they are.
