I'm back in the extended family of current GM owners. I've had it for a few days, actually. Some of you asked for pics so here are a handful.

1995 Chevrolet K1500 Silverado. 6.5 turbodiesel.

I absolutely love this truck. Much more comfy than my Ford (which has a bench seat and noisy exhaust)... and I am actually warming up to the slushbox. I appreciate having my right hand to hold the drink I'm sipping (in my other vehicles, shifting gears with a drink sometimes produced spillings), or the snack I'm eating, or my cellphone, etc.

P.S. That tan/beige/brownish color is my favorite GM color ever, so I was really glad when I found out which color the truck was.

P.S. #2 Just FYI, the strange non-dirty rectangle on the doors = the previous owner's magnetic company stickers (which he removed when I picked up the vehicle).

Everything in Canada is always just so, so.........neat and tidy. And clean too.

Have fun with your new ride lio45!
Well, that rectangle on my passenger door sure is clean and tidy, yes. The rest of the truck... not so much. ;)

(out of curiosity, what did you mean exactly? I guarantee I won't be offended!)

My good, old, not-so-trusty WVO setup (which I kept when I sold my old Golf) is ready to be installed on that rig. Probably this coming weekend. The little tank (made from an empty five gallon) is Golf-sized, not GMT400-sized, but I think it'll do for now. I'll just fill up often.

I'm also going to have to show you guys pics of the trailer :D

Here's the Golf trunk (pic from a couple years ago). Easy fit in the Silverado... and I'll even have leftover cargo capacity.

6.5 TD = not that rare
6.5 TD in a short box 1500 = rare
6.5 TD in a short box 1500 Silverado Z71 fully loaded 1995-1998 (for the much nicer interior) = quite rare

all of the above in that color = well, I'd say very very rare.

Do they allow you to wash your vehicle in Canada? :p:

Those were my dream trucks as a little kid. Big'ol Chevy diesel, preferably dually and a crew cab (at that age, the biggest thing I could find next to a Tonka truck was cool).

WVO is what again? I must have missed that...
Waste Vegetable Oil. Diesels will run on free, used cooking oil after a bit of filtration.

Great find, lio45! The illusive GMT-400 K1500 ECSB Z71 is one of my dream trucks! :yup: My dad's '94 Suburban was the same color (Light Autumnwood) and I always liked it, especially when it had the polished billet wheels on it.

I thought you had given up WVO forever? :D

I never said "forever". :)

I just said that the hassle of gathering/filtering oil wasn't worth it...... back then.

Now, a few things are different.

1) I need a truck way more than I used to, so as of late I found myself using that gas hog F150 pretty often;

2) My amateur mechanic longtime buddy, who, in his free time, relentlessly kept working on a way to make gathering/filtering more efficient and automated, has just shown me his "completed" gathering trailer (it's going to be a breeze now);

3) The same guy has just informed me his new sister in law is working at the main cafeteria of our city's largest university (10,000+ students). They make a lot of fries. She's giving us all the oil we want;

4) Gas is (proportionally) way more expensive than it was back when I decided to trade my Golf for a Civic.

BTW, thanks for the official color name...

FWIW, if you like them that much, and are serious about running on WVO... stop looking for a Benz and set your sights on a diesel GMT400! They ought to be plentiful in Texas... if not by %, at least by sheer number (since there are so many trucks on the roads).

Well, it's nice to hear that you're back at it again. :D

The half-ton diesels are just as hard to find here as they are anywhere else. The only real advantage the 6.5L offered over the 350 was fuel economy, but in a world of cheap gas that wasn't enough to get people to pay extra for the diesel. The tow ratings were actually lower on diesel models than on gas models, so that didn't help the diesel's case either. Actually, even on three-quarter an one-ton models most buyers chose either the 350 or 454 over the 6.5L.

From what I've seen, pretty much all of the diesels that actually did sell were used as work trucks and are now in need of restoration.

Makes sense... besides, the gas engines are cheaper to repair, and the SBC is a tried and true reliable powerplant. I would totally understand not checking the 6.5TD option box back when gas was dirt cheap.

BTW, if you want me to help you out with anything re: running on WVO... just ask.
