Camaro 1LE Derived Handling Package Coming to Chevrolet SS

The manual Chevrolet SS we’ve been waiting for has arrived, but Chevy engineers want to make it even more fun with an optional handling package.

The engineers even know the part numbers to use. Using the Camaro’s fantastic 1LE option as a template, they’d employ different tires and size them equally front and rear (standard SS uses a staggered setup) to increase neutrality. The package would also offer new dampers and a retuned suspension. Chevy engineers say it could be ready in as little as three to six months. What’s the problem? Convincing higher-ups it’s worth it.

To those who will doubt this Motor Trend article; know that they stated the MRS (Magnetric Ride Shocks/Control) and M/T (Manual Transmission) were to be introduced to the SS almost a year ago. Thank goodness they were correct. The above is a no-brainer, but Chevy is moving just two to three hundred of these a month...so it may not be worth the engineering expense.

One more thing: Should GM transfer production of this model to the United States in the years to come, they will want to keep the current model 'fresh', and the above change could be a simple way to do so.

Lately, they've barely been selling 100 per month!
I had the pleasure of checking one out yesterday. Man this thing sound wicked. I think I will get one. I will change the tailpipes to Borla.

If a tree falls in the forest, does it actually make noise if no one hears it??

Same thing here. True or false, all 100 per month potential buyers may or may not care. It may add 5 buyers a month.

Without a engine upgrade to go with it. I wonder if it will get approved. The LSA is waiting.
Too bad this car is on it's death walk.

Yep. They always get better before going away, you know there are a few examples in GM's history.

doesnt this car already ride hard, wont the 1le make it really rough. an LT1 would have solved any issues with power.
The only thing that will help the SS is a complete restyle, one of the most uninspired bland vehicles GM has ever produced. It's so bad it's Cadillac Catera-esque.

The thing that really ticks me off about the SS is the G8 had a little bit of style, where did it go? I fail to believe GM couldn't have slapped a bowtie and some badges on something like this:

Now that looks badass! I'd already be at the Chevy dealer with my checkbook out, if that were the SS.

This could push sales all the way up over the 100 per month mark.
For the current model that is winding-down, this doesn't make much sense.

But..........with this "last minute" investment into the SS/Commodore, could there be a surprise rwd sedan replacement in the works?

Love the car. However I feel they should spend the money elsewhere. The sales do not justify the means. Unless they would actually advertise. Spend it on the new Malibu...
