A good mate of mine did up an EH Premier wagon (as in full body off resto with the best of everything), and used a similar colour to the ones above called 'Portsea blue' which might have been customised a bit because it looks pretty green under some lighting conditions (hazy yellow light) and pretty blue under others.

So you can have a look @ the colours, and yes those wheels aren't original - they're custom deep dish Holden steel rims done in proper old fashioned chrome.

You could buy new cars in South Africa with this colour well into the 1980s. We always called it "Loo Blue".

I liked this very sanitary Q'ey sleeper at Summernats quite a few years ago, an original low kms unit with bench seat & auto for sale at $10k neg. Apart from that unfortunate hole in the bonnet (and the number plate lol) she otherwise looked bog stock as a rock inside & out - an outstandingly clean & tidy 'dads special' throughout, except for the fresh 454



Btw I briefly owned a stock but unusual-spec HQ Kingswood sedan in that medium green metallic. It was one of the early models optioned with 308 + 4-speed + LSD + dual exhaust + sports wheels and the 'level 2' gauge pack. But no other options at all, not even a radio and get this - despite the floor-shift manual it was also specced with the bench seat AND rubber floor mats. It went like stink (in a straight line)

The most appealing HQ I've had anything to do with was my gopher work car in '76, the immaculate HQ LS Monaro with 253 3-speed in that beautiful skymist blue metallic with ivory vinyl roof & matching trim. P/W with A/C and the only mod was the mellowest sounding Lukey exhaust, a great summer car. Smooth ride and rolly-polly handing from the whitewalls and stock everything-else but a heap of fun in spite of itself (if you know what I mean). This spec really befitted the car and it was one really cool Q

It's a bit difficult to tell from the pics, but if they are both shades of blue then the Kingswood (top pic) is Frost Blue & the Premier (lower pic) is Spartacus Blue Metallic.

Is the "179" badge hard to see in these images or was the "Premier" exempt from the "179" badges - the Premier badge prevailed because the car was only availbale as I recall as a 179?

^ You're correct, the Premier badge prevailed.
The little sheild on the Premier badge has the Southern cross on it though =D
It's a good thing it doesnt have 179 badges because the grey under that heavy steel bonnet was I think a 179 HP bored out to 186 or 190, with Yella Terra heads and a custom higher flowing exhaust, since the original was very restrictive.
Never fear though, because there's a spare original 179 in a shed and also an original set of rims and tyres, all of which can bolt straight in.

Wish I could show the interior.

I did and its pretty quaint, in fact I bought that issue new and recall the soft vinyl record didn't survive too many plays before the stylus sliced it up. Looking back its amazing that a reputable rag like MM considered even basic HQ variants to be not just good handlers but outstanding. Other publications like 'Wheels' were not so convinced, nor was Motor Manual

Holden had a huge and fantastic colour palette back in those days, including those wonderful 'astro' metallics, and their paintwork proved far more durable than on opposition marques. Seen the appealing Taormina Aqua Metallic and Wedgewood (similar to your Frost Blue) via THIS page?

My mate had an LJ in a great colour that I don't know the name of. But it would be fairly close to Evoke, a gun metal grey with a bluey/purpley tint through it.
My HJ Prem was a great colour, it was a champagne colour called - of all things - Antelope. It was like a Benz colour, my Prem was one beautiful car, weep.
