Mercedes May Have Been Caught Using Defeat Devices Again

Sky Building Window Cloud Tower

After reaching a ten-figure settlement with the U.S. federal government last year, Mercedes-Benz is now facing new allegations of skirting diesel emissions regulations. Deutsche Umwelthilfe (Environmental Action Germany), a German environmental and consumer protection non-profit organization, published a report claiming that a diesel-powered 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class model is fitted with eight emissions defeat devices that were not previously known about.

The report claimed when tested the model in question emitted nitrogen oxide at levels 500% over the legal limit, according to Engine + Powertrain Technology International. Six of the eight alleged defeat devices are related to the vehicle’s selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system. The SCR system, marketed under the name BlueTEC, is meant to reduce emissions by converting nitrogen oxide to lower its total concentration that leaves the exhaust.

Just like the Eurocrats "helped" make unattainable diesel regulations!

I wonder when they'll get into regulating BEV's.
You can bet a dollar to a donut that some bureaucrat or supergeek will find some magical source of "emissions" (I mean, other than their own, when figuring how to screw legitimate bidnesses and control and hobble the peasantry) be it tire dust, braking regen pollution from unknown sources, or previously-unheard-of battery smells and trails of lost electrons--or perhaps neutrons or protons--dribbled on the the road like a slow bladder leak, as lektriks pass by.

This will quickly become a vehicular plandemic with Emergency Measures! needed to save mankind from his/her/their/its/what's/'omething's own folly. When the makers are all converted to 150% lektrik by 2035 or 2040, some genius will discover how dangerous lektriks are and demand production be stopped! and that safe, sane, reliable, known quantities such as internal combustion vehicles replace them! Vehicles which have a known, secure source of energy that's tried and true, that has been used in relative safety for over a century.

Guaranteed that they'll cook up a way to limit power. No matter what, a fast/sporty or big BEV will require more electricity, they'll figure a way to tax the crap out of it just like they more or less limited ICE engine size. I'm certain Brandon's minions are working on that too.

I absolutely expect EVs will have efficiency standards to abide by. Those that think EVs will mark the end of the regulatory burden are sadly mistaken.
UK Government will lose £40 billions a year in ICE fuel tax duty after 2030, they are going to fill the big black hole lost fuel duty tax revenue on gasoline/diesel with similar levels of taxes on electric cars.

EV car owners would face a new "save the planet" road pricing tax, that would be charged between 2p and £1.50 per mile depending on the time of day and levels of congestion so if you drove 100 miles on a busy time of time of day you would be charged £150 ($202) for the 100 mile trip in an electric car to make up for lost ICE tax revenue , and a new electricity consumption tax of 3% on all households regardless of whether they own an EV or don't own one. Electric car taxes are coming LINK

I think everybody will end up living closer to work, maybe move a nicer area when they retire, with expensive road pricing.

British motorists are pretty apathetic about upgrading to EV's as they know the current 70% taxes on every tank of fuel you fill-up with a tank full of 70% taxes, will be replaced with new wave of EV car taxes once EV's go mainstream after 2030.

There'll be no need to limit power when we're all be in autonomously driven vehicles with software that limits all aspects of driving like acceleration, cornering, etc. Brandon ... er-r, I mean, Biden will make sure of it.
