I juist rec'd this copy on GM's official take on Oshawa agreement. Sorry if it's already out there.

GM Canada Communications Memorandum of Understanding with the CAW GMCL is pleased to confirm that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) wasreached with the CAW on July 22, 2008 that resolves all issues resultingfrom the original Truck Plant cessation announcement. The MOU augments the new 3 year GMCL/CAW agreement. The MOU provides apositive new plan and vision for future car production in Oshawa thatbetter aligns with the market. We will take full advantage of GM's recent multi billion dollar flexmanufacturing and environmental technology investments at the Oshawa Carfacility to build a total of four (4) mid-sized cars on the Oshawa flexline starting with the Camaro. The plan is for a flexible, fuelefficient mix of front wheel drive and rear wheel drive mid sized carsto be added between now and 2013 with the intent of fully utilizing theflex line. Additionally the current Oshawa Impala car production willrun on 3 shifts through 2009 with build out now planned for 2013(subject to market demand). All product commitments are subject to normal final Board of Directorapprovals and market conditions so we won't be providing any detailsbeyond the recent Camaro announcement. This agreement turns the page on past disagreements, responds to ongoingmarket changes and prepares for the future with a positive plan of newcars, state of the art flexible manufacturing and our proven Oshawatrack record of industry leading quality and productivity. Highlights of the MOU are as follows: Chevrolet Camaro start of production in the first quarter of 2009(early builds in late 2008) Rear wheel drive vehicle during the life of the existing agreement(if this business case is not viable then GM agrees to replace thevehicle with one of comparable volume) Front wheel drive midsize car scheduled for late 2010 (this productallocation is contingent on market demand, Board of Directorsapproval and a viable business case) Front wheel drive midsize car scheduled for early 2013 (this productallocation is contingent on market demand, Board of Directorsapproval and a viable business case) The Chevrolet Impala currently produced on three shifts on theconsolidated line in the Car Plant will continue on three shiftsthrough 2009 and will extend the life of this vehicle line from itspreviously announced closing of 2008, to 2013 (subject to marketdemand) GMCL and the CAW also agreed to a variety of tools to aid in therequired downsizing of the Oshawa work force. Targeted incentivesthat vary depending on age and years of service will be offered toeligible employees The alternating two shift agreement for Oshawa Truck previouslyagreed to by GM and the CAW during bargaining this spring will gointo effect September 2008 and conclude at the end of the year. Theclosure date for the plant has been set for July 1, 2009. Bothparties acknowledge the potential for future downtime due to thecontinued shift in the US from large trucks and SUVs to cars andcrossovers. Additionally, GM confirmed with employees that six weeks of thepreviously announced downtime will commence Monday September 8 andemployees will return to work on Monday, October 20.(Embedded image moved to file: pic24767.jpg)

Everything sounds so tenative in this agreement. RWD cars? Maybe. If the Board likes it and the market conditions are right. Nothing concrete here except that there will be a Camaro, a FWD Impala for a few more years, and some other kind of car that really could be anything.
