Me, at the dealer this morning ordering my new truck

Yep, I think you'll find that most sales people only know enough to be smarter than the average customer. People in car forums are not usually average customers. We know a lot more than the average car shopper, and therefore a lot more than the average sales person.

I remember in 2013/2014 when the new trucks came out I went to my local GMC dealership and was shopping for my first Denali. The salesman I got stuck with didn't know very much about the trucks and I was asking a bunch of questions that he couldn't answer. I think he must have been new at the time, but I knew I wanted to order something not on their lot so it wasn't a big deal. I've since used the guy to buy three trucks and I've been car shopping with him several times with my mom and I will give him credit for being much more knowledgeable than he used to be. He is now able to answer questions about laminated glass, key differences between trims, safety features, how to enable/disable certain features, etc., etc. I've been very impressed that he now knows a lot more than that first time I bought from him. But this is I think the largest GMC dealership in Texas, so I assume they put in a little more effort with their training than the average dealership.
