The governor said he thinks GM officials were impressed with the cohesiveness of the delegation and with proposals from state economic development chief Aris Melissaratos to create a free-trade zone around the Baltimore plant and to remodel the plant to produce specialty cars and trucks.

Industry experts said the high-profile political effort probably won't forestall the expected closing.
This has been a hot topic here recently...and is pretty sad...
Baltimore is an industrial city in decline and this is just another nail in the coffin really...especially with Bethlaham Steel and the avaiation Industry drying up.

The Baltimore plant it self is interesting because it is right on the harbor and in the city....which always struck me as odd for an auto plant. I know it's a long long shot...but part of me wishes GM would retool it and make Sigma-Lite cars there..
