My wife the Saab nuts car is going on nine years old. She wanted to replace it then Saab discontinued the hatchback with the new 9-3. She was bummed. Then she saw the Saab 9-2 and got excited but the more she reads about it the less interested she becomes. As she said. "It's a better looking Suburu, but it's a Subaru." This morning she tells me, "I'm on the web and I see this new Chevy Malibu and the Saab 9-3 share the same platform. I never thought about Chevy before but I see this car called a Malibu Maxx and it reminds me of a cross between my Saab 900 and a Saab 9000." She likes the looks of the interior, "Saab like she says," she likes the 3.5 V-6 auto with the 200 horses and she LOVES the hatchback. She wants to go look at one this spring. Wouldn't that be something. My wife the Saab nut becomes the Chevy nut. Now if they will give me my RWD, SS, Impala/Chevelle/Monte coupe, I could die in peace.

Glad to hear that, the Malibu is an awsome car. I had a chance to test drive one the other day. Very solid indeed. I'm sure your wife will like the way it drives. :D

Go drive a new 'bu ahead of time. The looks are excatly that of a MAXX, just with a different entire rear-end. It will drive the same, and it looks excatly like a regular 'bu just with a different rear.

Now, lets have GM put the Power sliding rear roof thats in the XUV in this bad boy!

yah it has a longer wheel base, I think the one the G6 is based off. So it just might drive different, especially if they put better tires on the Maxx. Also i would want to wait to check out the cool options and sit in the rear reclining seats!

yeah, the rear reclining seats in the Maxx is awesome!! Whata great idea. I just with it had more power in the Maxx, like 240. Something to keep up with teh V6 accord. I havnet seen many malibu's out on the road here in NJ, or at least where I live. I have seen a lot of the new GP's and CTS's.

Is the Malibu geared for the highway?
It is impressive to see 220 lb/ft and a
32 mpg highway figure. Nice numbers!

I agree - it is almost sexy.

This car could be a real breakthrough. If it starts selling like crazy, I trust GM's ready to bankroll a Cobalt MAXX.

I saw a black MAXX today, it looks SOOOO classy in black...almost sexxy...but not really...lol
TaHoe, you can't seriously believe that I would let this go unchallenged... (NN?)

The Malibu Maxx is uber-swank, and destined to be a cult favorite, and not the Ghrankenstein kind of cult that worships Christmas lights and microwave ovens.

Consider, the black MAXX, with the same kind of market appeal as Dodge, with their MAGNUM engines, 17"-18" near-dubs, and blacked-out windows. Consider the independent reclining back seats, the rear skylight, and the DVD, and you have the UPV- the ultimate porn vehicle.

I might be wrong. So far I've had a lot of internet inquiries about the MAXX, and so far they're the "Import Buyer" variety, not the "Stylin' Pimp Daddy" variety, but I think that can change in a heartbeat... of America.

I have to tell you. The Malibu Maxx is a wonderful car. It's just that all these Americans are getting used to imports (no offense to import owning Americans on this board, which over half are). I bought a Caddy CTS in 2002, as a 2003 model and I am trading it in this spring for a 400 hp Caddy V-Series. I think the only way we can prove the domestic are making a comeback (especially GM) is to buy one. :)

I sat in the MAXX @ NAIAS. I Liked it!!!!

The only concern I had were the retractable rear sun screens. Where the shades lock into the roof , there might be a design flaw. It would seem that over time the latch would wear out the plastic trim that holds the shades latch in place. This would disable the use of the sunshade. WARNING, DON'T LET YOUR KIDS PLAY W/THIS!!!!!!

I'm going to stop nit-picking.

I wanted to drive that MAXX home from NAIAS.

Ghrank you are right. This MAXX is "Über-Swank".
