Need help with the following problem in Malibu 2001.

When the car is started it has higher than normal rpms. When driving the car, letting go of the pedal, the car still drives! and does not decellerate.

Thanks you in advance.

I'd check the tension on the accelerator cable. Perhaps someone overtightened it? That could cause the problem you're describing. Did you buy the Malibu recently, or have you had it a while?

I think there is a technical service bulletin about a sticky accellerator cable. Id ask the dealer if such a thing exists.

Thanks for the replies.

No one touched the cable or did any work around there. Had the car for years.

Anyone have a link to the tech bulletin that I could read up on, about a sticky cable?

Thanks again.

Never had that problem in my 01 but in your case it could be a cable of some sort

If not a sticky throttle cable, maybe a (TPS) throttle position sensor? I've seen high idle happen when it fails.
