My thoughts at seeing the interior/ Dash shot:

Yeesh... talk about a cobbled-together interior.

Although, we are starting to see more of the new Lincoln development philosophy. While the MKS shared its gauge cluster hardware with the Taurus (which different surfacing and backlighting), this new model doesn't appear to share any interior hardware with the Ford Flex.

That laptop LCD screen is hiding what's expected to be a GIANT LCD display in the dashboard.

Lincoln mentioned the Mercedes-Benz R-Class and Audi Q7 as the targets they want to surpass, so we'll see.

I agree about the instrument cluster, however the center stack resembles an S80 Volvo more than a CTS

You're right. My reference was a reaction to the cluster. The rest of IP looks to be a copy of current Asian orthodoxy, like this Hyundai:

I always hated (US) Ford interiors; this doesn't change anything.

It looks they are trying to branch away from their square with more squares interior design. But it almost looks like the dash is taken straight from the ES, with the q-tip shape and all.

We'll have to see. I'll probably side with the Enclave though

The interior isn't looking that bad. I won't say that they are trying really hard to re-produce the interior of the concept verbatim, however, the main design cues are still there, just toned down a bit.

If you compare the two closely, you can see that the general gist of the concepts interior is still there. The black portion of the production dash shares a similar shape with the production version, and once the center stack trim is in place, you will see that the same flow still exists. The dark grey inset portions from the concept are replaced with the wood trim areas, and while not as deep of an inset, they are still behind a lip, giving a sense of an overhang. It is also apparent that the top of the dash continues over the doors, just like in the concept.

I am a little disappointed with the lower portion of the dash, it is not as clean cut and sculpted as the concept, nor does it share a similar shape.

I don't think we will be seeing all of the "bling" on the center stack as we see in the concept, however, by the looks of the missing trim, they do have something similar planned...

Overall, not a horrible effort on their part, but, obviously not as extreme as the concept.

GM and Ford produce some amazing concepts, but they don't fully translate into production, which is highly unfortunate -- especially at the upper levels.

Take this Lincoln. I'd love to see those seats in a production car. Why can't we? Why not have beautifully detailed seats in the production version? If they cost more, charge more for the vehicle. People can see the difference between the run-of-the-mill Ford seat and something like that seat.

As for the IC, why not build it as close as possible to the concept? This "trying to keep it affordable" mentality has to stop. That interior would leapfrog everyone, allowing Lincoln to stake high end cred quickly. Instead, it's seriously watered down.

Of the two, GM tends to make their cars match their concepts very very closely. Ford still has a ways to go, but this concept vs. production leaves me cold. It could be so much more.

We'll be getting the giant LCD screen on the center stack from the concept on higher-end models. This interior is obviously a non-navi unit.

The seats in the concept are horrendously uncomfortable. I actually asked the Lincoln rep at NYIAS about production seats similar to the concept, and he said sitting in that concept car's seating is absolute torture on the back.

As for concepts vs production... Mullally has decreed that Ford will not longer produce dead-end concepts that look nothing like production vehicles.

That would be SO cool if we get the huge LCD touch screen in the middle. The interior on the MKT concept is beautiful, hopefully they'll keep it as close as possible on the production car.

Won't be quite as large as the concept, but here's a little preview from the 2010 Fusion interior:

A LCD touch screen would be awesome! Imagine having all the controls from the air conditioning, radio, GPS, windshield wiper, headlights, to seat warmer all in one screen. There would be no need to look for buttons to control what and just focus on your driving.

I know, it would be so neat! :yup: Very revolutionary, it would cool if Lincoln led on something like this for a change, being the first to have something like this out on the market.

While that LCD is big, it's not flush with the center stack like the MKT concept. To me, the beauty of the concept's center stack wasn't the size of the LCD but rather how it's so well integrated with the rest of the center stack and just flows like a waterfall.

This was the original concept of iDrive (well, with a controller instead of touch screen). Ever since the original iDrive, BMW has been backtracking by adding more and more buttons to make the system easier to use. First they added programmable "shortcut" buttons on the center stack. Then more programmable buttons on the steering wheel. And now even more buttons around the controller. The reality is, having dedicated buttons for commonly used things just work better than a centralized control scheme.
