Lincoln teases suicide doors for upcoming production model
Justin King
December 13, 2018, 3:05 pm

"Center-opening doors elevated the Lincoln #Continental of the mid 1960's to the pinnacle of mid-century style, a car driven by the likes of Pablo Picasso," Lincoln wrote on a Facebook post. "#TBT... or is it?"

Which particular production model might get suicide doors remains a mystery. A next-generation Continental seems the most obvious candidate, but recent rumors suggest the sedan may be retired after 2020.

I suspect this is intended to keep the nameplate in production while they make a decision relative to on-again, off-again CD6-based Lincoln sedan projects as much as anything else. There really isn't much to lose here as Flat Rock is already tooled and running for the car anyway and Mustang production is going to continue regardless. If that is the case then this may be good news with regard to the prospects on a CD6-based Lincoln moving forward. On the flip side, if the Continental does make it through the product cut gauntlet, it won't survive beyond 2022 as we know it regardless. So, at that point, it's either CD6 or nothing unless drastic changes occur.

Should have been a RWD large sedan, would have been a great black car/Town Car replacement.
I think the Continental's biggest weakness is a down market, BUT it was too watered down from the concept. IF there is a second Gen, it should move RWD (CD6).

Suicide doors are cool, but I doubt it would result in any additional sales. But I like they are finally trying to elevate Lincoln with unique products/interiors. That is good for the market and for us as the consumer.

They could be testing the waters to see if it's worth it to do a next gen on CD6 it would be low volume but so are other luxury flagships and they are still in demand for their segment.

Getting into the 100+ grand price range is IMO smart. PROVIDED there is significant noticeable return on that investment.

High on that list is that everybody who's somebody knows that you paid 150 grand+ for that hot rod Lincoln. :drive:

Wow. If Lincoln is able to sell all 80 at that price, the more power to them.

^^^ Nice photos but it looks awkward as Hell trying to get in it. Think about getting in a normal sedan, the first leg goes up and over the sill then the butt slides over and plop you're in and the second leg gets pulled up and in completely. With this thing you have to enter facing forward as usual but your front side now faces the seat and seat back, so you then would have to twist around to get your butt in the proper spot to sit down I would think just like seeing someone get into a limo.
